Hi I'm Jake

I'm a U.S. Air Force cadet and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived in Maryland my entire life and love the east coast terrain. I have never been to a school with more than a few active members of the LDS church, so majority of my friends have been members of other denominations. I value friendships and relationships that last beyond this life and strive to keep them in good standing. I am a huge outdoors fanatic- camping, hiking, rock scrambling, canoeing and all that jazz. The east coast is great for the hiking and canoeing, but I am partial to the west for the rest. I tend to be less than talented at most sports, but I love the exercise and game play. I just finished my Associates in Teaching and am planning on becoming a high school math teacher after finishing school. I served two years in the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission and loved every minute of it.

Why I am a Mormon

If there is one great thing to know in this life, it is to know that there is something afterward to look forward to. This gives life meaning and a sense of purpose; especially, since it is accompanied with the fact that we are all children of a divine Being. Our Heavenly Father has a magnificent plan for each and everyone of us that extends beyond this life! I have grown up as a member of the Church, but just like you, I've had my doubts here and there. However, a few sacred truths have remained constant for me: 1) God loves me and won't lead me astray for making good choices, 2) the Book of Mormon is true scripture translated by a prophet of God and 3) the Holy Ghost has/will testify of spiritual truths regarding the Savior's atonement and infinite mercy. These things have allowed me to overcome many things and I hope to overcome all the trials that are placed in my path. I have received my own personal witness from the Holy Ghost, in my heart, that the Book of Mormon is True and that the man Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet called of God. Listen to his words and you will know that he is a special witness of the Lord.

How I live my faith

I value the words of the prophets in the Old and New Testaments and love hearing the words of the current prophet, Thomas S. Monson. Praying daily and attending church sustained me through Field Training and gave me the right perspective on life, trials, and successes. I strive, everyday, to be a better me than the day before. I fail and I make mistakes often, but I will never forget that there is One who has made it so I can feel at peace. Jesus Christ suffered for my sins and I can be truly forgiven. Everyday, I think to myself, "If something were to happen to me today and I met my Maker, would I be smiling or hiding from His presence." I live honestly and am constantly driven to be the best man I can be to my Brothers and Sisters.
