Hi I'm Laura

I'm a southern gal who loves music and sports, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a junior at BYU. I am majoring in elementary education. I enjoy playing sports such as soccer and basketball, but I love to watch any and all college football. I was born and raised in the South and that shapes who I am today. Music is a huge part of my life. I play the piano, viola, and recently learned how to play percussion with an ensemble. I enjoy being around people who uplift me, and I'm always looking for a good, clean, fun time! I adore my friends and family. They are the backbone to my life. Without them I wouldn't have the support I need to keep me standing strong today. I am currently serving an 18 month mission for the church. I have been called to serve in the Philippines! I'm excited to share my love for the gospel with those I've been called to serve.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church. But I have experienced for myself, the blessings being a member of the church brings. I know what I believe is true. I don't doubt it. And if I do, praying for the answers to my questions always leads me back to following the gospel. I have a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love Christ and my Heavenly Father so much. They have done so much for me and I strive to be able to live each day in honor of them.

How I live my faith

During my high school years, I attended early morning seminary every morning at 6:10 AM before school. It increased my attitude towards the Savior. Without it, I don't know if the decisions I made each day would have been the best ones possible. I have no doubts in this gospel and living became easier by attending seminary. Having friends that share the same faith also really helps. My best friends are members of the church, and my friends that aren't have good moral standards. I try my best to be the best person I can and smile always! I enjoy serving others, it makes me feel so good when I have helped someone else and in turn, an act of service I perform helps me in ways I can not even describe. I now attend a church sponsored school, and it's comforting to know that I have people who care about me at every turn. Currently, I am serving an 18 month mission in the Philippines to fulfill my calling to spread the gospel to all the world! I love this church so much, in fact I love this lifestyle. I couldn't imagine how I could be any more happy.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Laura
No, not all Mormons are required to serve missions. Young men, age 18 or older, are instructed by the Prophet of God to serve a mission. Sisters, age 19 or older, are allowed to serve missions, but our first responsibility in life is to nurture children, and be a mother, BUT more and more sisters are gaining the desire to serve, and I strongly believe that any person, man or woman, who serves a mission and dedicates their whole self to His work will in turn be more prepared for marriage and for the upbringing of the future generation.
