Hi I'm Kathleen

I'm an artist. I am conquering depression. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a university student studying Fine Arts, and I am loving it. I am passionate about art and music. I love to travel and be outdoors. I have a need to help others and I hope to incorporate that into my life. My life has been saved more than once by my faith.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, but when I was younger I was really just going through the motions. I lived off of the belief of my parents but had no real faith of my own. As I grew into my teenage years I slipped into a deep depression. I doubted the existence of an all-knowing God who somehow still loved me personally. I was plagued by self-doubt and self-loathing, and I slowly began to isolate myself from the church and everyone who cared about me. I lived two years this way, isolated from everyone and barely making my way through each day. I looked for validation in temporary pleasure but found only disappointment. Finally, as I was hitting rock bottom, I spoke to my Bishop, and he gave me a blessing. It was the first time I had felt peace in two long years. I'm not saying everything improved right away, because it didn't. It took a lot more work to get me to the point I am at today. I started seeing a psychiatrist and was put on antidepressants. But the thing that helped and guided me the most was my new faith. I had something to live for, and I was constantly supported by the loving hands of my family, friends and fellow members. So. Why am I a Mormon? Because when life was at its darkest, Heavenly Father was the only one who could convince me that I was loved and worthwhile. The Mormon church was the only place I could find peace. And although life is still a struggle, my faith has shown me that with every trial I grow stronger and that one day I will find eternal happiness.

How I live my faith

Now that I have found hope, I strive to share that hope with everyone I meet. My goal in life is to help everyone feel the unconditional love of Heavenly Father. During the summer I volunteer as a counsellor at a christian-based canoe camp, and share all the love I can give with the girls I am watching over. I focus on empathy and do my best to see the good in everyone I meet. I live every day as an adventure and try to remember that tomorrow is a new day.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Everything I see tells me there is a God. The fact that I wake up every day... that fact that I can breathe, that I can walk and write and speak. The world is so full of wonders that have no other explanation. God shows His love for us with every rainbow in the sky, with every flower, with every reflection, with every sunset. When I am having dark days and I can't see any of that, I am convinced there is a God simply because I can't not believe it. When I begin to doubt, there is always something to make me believe again: it will start raining (I love rain), or a friend will call and ask if I am okay, or I will just feel comforted.
