Hi I'm Bernadette

I was born in Haiti. I am mother of five, a teacher and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of five adult children, four boys and one girl. I am a substitute teacher in an area school district and just earned my Master's degree in ESL. I went back to school late in life and finished my Bachelor's degree and then went on to my Master's. For many years I was a stay at home mom raising my children until the youngest went to school. I returned to the work force and went to work in a school. I love to read and enjoy science fiction movies. I have diverse abilities in many areas. Writing is a passion and I aspire to get more of my work published someday. Nature uplifts me and brings me to a higher plane. I come from an immigrant family who traveled to the United States many years ago. I am saddened by the state of my native country of Haiti and hope to be of service to the people of my native land someday.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a religious person, but I learned the true nature of God and my relationship to him as a member of the church. I was a convert to the church at the age of 25 when I felt that there was something missing in my life. For many years I sought to understand my spiritual nature and gifts. I felt different, not quite fitting in, wanting more of something, but not quite knowing what was missing. Life was difficult and all the temporal sources did not give me an answer. But as I prayed for peace the Lord sent the elders to my door and things fell into place. My questions were answered and I had an outpouring of the Holy Ghost to confirm what I was learning was true. I gained a profound testimony that the things I was taught were true and the scriptures sunk deep into my heart. During that time I became a true witness of the Savior and the light that shines within me has never dimmed in the last 28 and a half years. The many things I have learned has helped me to raise a wonderful family in these trying times.

How I live my faith

I am presently a music leader in the primary which is the organization for children 18 months to twelve years old. I am given the opportunity to teach the children the songs of the church which helps to bring knowledge and peace to their lives. This calling given to me by the Lord is totally new to me, but I enjoy it thoroughly. I have served in a variety of callings with children, youth, and adults in Sunday School. These service opportunities have allowed me to touch many lives. Being a member of the church has provided many ways for me to expand my horizons in many areas. The Lord has blessed me in many ways as I have been willing to serve others both in and out of the church. I have had many opportunties to serve others. I try to help those that I meet helping them when they are in need. It gives me much joy. As I attend church each Sunday and partake of the sacrament I renew my covenants with the Lord and I am richly blessed in many areas. The Holy Spirit has been a constant companion as I have strived to not only serve in my callings, but as I work hard at keeping the commandments. The Lord has given me much peace during trying times and abundant times. As a member of the church I have truly learned that all are my brothers and sisters.
