Hi I'm Brent

I'm a husband, father, cyclist, birder, cancer survivor, patent attorney and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Depending on the temperature, I like to ride my bike to work. I get some exercise, but also have time to clear my head. Some days I just enjoy the scenery, watch the birds (usually shore wading birds), other days I might ponder on life, family and work.

Why I am a Mormon

On those latter days, I might ponder a question such as this one. I might think about the struggles I am having at the moment, or some issue I have been trying to work out for a long time and question "why am I Mormon?" But my thoughts will always return to past experiences where I felt the Holy Spirit touch my life and either give me strength, courage, or comfort. I am a Mormon because the teachings of the Church have gotten me through life and I have felt God's love while trying to live according to what I believe are true principles.

How I live my faith

I live my faith just by being me. Right now my local congregation has asked me to help the full time missionaries. So I end up going out with them to visit people that want to learn about the church. At these visits the missionaries do most of the teaching. I try to share my experiences and thoughts and just be a friend. Before that my wife and I team-taught the 10-11 year old primary class. It was all girls. I gotta admit that was a lot of fun.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

After two months of marriage, I was diagnosed with cancer. I did not know what that meant for me and for my future. But, the knowledge that I could be with my new wife forever, even after this life, was very reassuring and helped me get through the difficult times that followed. Show more Show less
