Hi I'm Tom!

I live in Las Vegas Nevada, enjoy the desert southwest and the people here, and love helping where I can. I'm LDS.

About Me

Youngest member of my family of immigrant parents from Mexico. I grew up in southern Utah, served a 2 year LDS church mission in Northern Ohio, and utilized Spanish speaking in my service there. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from a university in Utah. I enjoy learning about different cultures and ways of life; languages / linguistics fascinate me. Additionally, by profession, I like learning about emerging and modern technology of many forms. Music, traveling, and socializing are important to me as well. My family and friends have influenced me significantly, but have also been great teachers of patience and compassion. I aspire to be a strong influence for goodness in the world; to build, help, and love.

Why I am a Mormon

Despite growing up with a semi-dysfunctional family, its probably been for my good, as I've learned some critical lessons on what leads to misery and a much better path. Even though there were difficulties for me growing up, my family members have taught me some vital life lessons. My Dad taught me to pray and my Mom taught me how to serve with dignity. Brother and sisters advised me of doing what is right and standing strong for it. The church and my family have initiated my desire to live a moral life of faith in Christ. Although I still know very little, I do know how much of a difference that the Lord can make in anybody's life including my own. Whatever challenges, heartache, grief, pain, loss, or any other difficulty, I know that God lives and can reach anybody. He has the power to heal and transform any person because I've seen it in the lives of others and even in myself. I know that there is no equivalent to active membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It strengthens uplifts me to this day.

How I live my faith

Since my early youth, I've been involved with church and scouting service that has significantly strengthened me and my desire to do good in society. I can remember being assigned with a fellow congregation member or my Dad to visit and share gospel messages with various people of our congregation on a monthly basis. Also, my family was visited by some very great people over the years. Some of them, have been great inspirations to me. Additionally, I've had the privilege to serve in various capacities which has improved some of my professional and marketable skills. These include leadership, records and book keeping, and extra curricular activity organizing type roles. Meaningful and heartfelt service with people has been one of the greatest sources of true happiness in my life.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Tithing goes toward the construction of new church buildings of several important purposes. It also goes to providing the operational requirements of the church and funding our missionary program. Tithing is a vital principle to demonstrate to the Lord that we hold our relationship with Him above anything else in the world. I personally can acknowledge how much it has blessed and fortified my life spiritually and temporally. Show more Show less
