Hi I'm Thane Bolander

I am a mechanical engineer and currently work as a Criticality Safety Officer at the INL. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married to LaDawn for the past 33 years. We have 4 sons and 4 daughters and 10 grandchildren. 3 are married, 4 single and 1 died of cancer. 2002 was a rough year for us - LaDawn had a brain turmor (benign) removed in march and our son was diagnoised with lymphoblastic lymphoma in September. Our son really wanted to serve a mission but had a kidney transplant when he was 11. He decided to send his papers in anyway. A week after sending the papers he found a lump, which turned out to be cancer. He servived a year of chemo treatment and the cancer was in remission. He wrote to Pres. Bricknel of the Idaho Pocatello mission and explained his desire to serve. Pres. Bricknel accepted him into the mission as a church service missionary. He worked with the missionaries as he could. He served for 14 months when the cancer came back again. He successfully underwent a bone marrow transplant from his brother. Before they could discharge him from the hospital the cancer came back. There was nothing else they could do. We brought him home and had a wonderful month with him before he passed away. While he was home the comfoter was with us the whole time. We know of the love our Savior has for each of us and the blessings that come from being a member of the Church. Because we have been sealed we will be together as a family again. We know what it means to receive the comforter in our lives.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members of the church and raised me in the church I have always liked going to church and singing the hymns of zion. They were a good example for me of service and the joy that can come from serving others. I served a mission in the Australia West mission, here is where I gained a testimony. Before that I believed but now I know. I know this church is true. I know that through the ordinances we receive in the temple, families can be together forever. We are lead by a living prophet today. I know that Joseph Smith was and is a prophet and that he did see God the Father and His son Jesus Christ in the grove of trees. The Book of Mormon is the word of God and we can get closer to our Heavenly Father by reading the scriptures and keeping the commandments.

How I live my faith

I enjoy serving in the church. I have been active in the Boy Scouts (which the church fully supports). I love working with the youth and watching as they grow and mature in the gospel and develop testimonies. I have served as a leader in the Boy Scouts for over 20 years. In addition, I have attended many events with the young women as I supported my daughters. There is nothing better in life than to serve others. I am not a perfect person and rely on the atoning gift the Savior has given. It is only through Him that we can truly be saved.
