Hi I'm Don

Idaho is my home and always will be at heart. I am a potato grower, cattle rancher, father, husband and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a country boy at heart. I grew up on a potato farm working alongside my father. I now work alongside my own sons and daughter producing hay and cattle. We love the horses. We team rope together and ride for fun as often as we can. I have four strapping sons and a beautiful daughter. My wife is my best friend. We have lived and loved together for 27 years. I am a law student. Have been for nearly 4 years. I will graduate in a couple months. When people ask me what I plan to do with my law degree, I simply tell them that I plan to buy a herd of cows. I don't really relish the thought of being an attorney.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love my Savior. He has given me everything. The very fact that I can sit here and type this message is a gift from Him. Through Him I have gained a love for life and family that can come no other way. He gives me a perspective of eternity, though shallow, that gives me a desire to do all I can to be like Him. The covenants that I have participated in such as baptism and the covenant of the priesthood serve to remind me of Him. I find myself thinking of different things that I can do daily that will help me be more worthy of His sacrifice for me. I have experienced many different occasions where prayer to my Father in Heaven has drawn me closer to my Savior. I communicate as often as needed which amounts to many times daily with my Father in Heaven. The things that have been taught to me since childhood that come through the Mormons serve as a beacon in my life that continually shines and draws me closer. Love is a huge part of the church. It is a truth that cannot be frustrated. God loves me and will always love me. I know that I can love him in return and show Him that love by merely obeying his commands. These commands, though hard at times, have been given me through His love. He wants me to be happy so he has given me a guide that is easy to understand. That is to do His will. He has taught that "if ye love me, keep my commandments". I try to show Him my love every day. Often I forget but I know that through the atonement brought to me by Christ I can become clean and renew my efforts to show my love. I am a Mormon because I know that God loves me. I know that His son Jesus Christ love me and atoned for my sins. I am a Mormon because I know that God speaks to man today through our prophet. I am a Mormon because I know that His power is here through His priesthood. He has given me the opportunity to hold such priesthood and to use it in blessing my family. For these reasons I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My family is my first love. I would do anything to stay together with them. The church has taught and continues to teach principles that build and strengthen us. We pray together, study together, attend church meetings together and if we do happen to be apart we know that we are prayed for and thought of. I love to work with the youth of the church. I have had the opportunity to do so in many different assignments. I have been a bishop (leader over a group) on a college campus, served as a scout leader for explorer scouts and worked as a father of four adolescent boys. Currently I follow my teenage daughter around to her different activities in the church as well as her community and school things. We as a family look for opportunities to serve others. In the mornings as we meet to study our scriptures we like to share experiences with each other of people we met and people who we served or were served by. This keeps us thinking more of Jesus Christ the ultimate example in service.
