Hi I'm Lori Mortensen

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Who am I? Of course--I am a child of God. I'm also a mother of three, a wife, and a children's author who's published over two dozen books for children with a variety of publishers. I enjoy dancing, cooking (yay--FoodNetwork!), gardening, canning, reading, walking, and photography.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and was blessed with a pioneer heritage in the gospel. As I grew, little by little, my testimony of the gospel grew. Over the years, I felt the goodness of the gospel in countless ways--through the faithful examples and testimonies of others, prayers, blessings, and inspiring, educational events. When I was in high school, however, I came to a cross roads. I felt I'd made some bad decisions and I wondered whether I should repent or walk away.I made it a matter of prayer and left it in the Lord's hands. The next day, I discovered a scripture in the Book of Mormon that felt like a direct answer to my prayer. I began to put my life back in order and from then on, the gospel has been a guidepost in my life.

How I live my faith

Over the years, I've had many opportunities to serve in my ward and in my community. I've served in the women's organization in leadership positions such as second counselor in the women's service organization, compassionate service leader, homemaking events, visiting teacher, and in the children's organization such as Primary president, primary teacher for many different ages, gospel doctrine teacher, the nursery, and speaking and singing in Sacrament meeting. Community service has included helping at a soup kitchen, filling grocery carts, and sprucing up school grounds and parks.
