Hi I'm Steven

I'm a Mormon. And a missionary- I came from Reno, NV to the New York Utica Mission.

About Me

My name is Steven Hearne, but until December 29th, 2012, I am Elder Hearne. I like to read, swim, play sports, jog, workout, I enjoy MMA (Mixed Martial Arts), and I plan to get better at fighting when I get home. I also love video games, though I haven't played them as much as I would like to. I also want to do several things like sky-diving, and have a bunch of crazy adventures in life. You only get one shot, so make it count! I love the gospel. I am really good at reading- I can read a ton, and I can study things like the scriptures more easily than a lot of people can; I'm really good at processing different language patterns and things like that. I joke that I know a lot of words that I can use, but I can never tell you what they mean! I love Anime and Manga- my favorite video game series is MegaMan. I enjoy most other games though; I love comics, and I want to get into Dungeons and Dragons, and I find I really enjoy the game Shadow Run. I've been working steadily at getting into shape for several years, and I am beginning to get the hang of it. I've learned a ton about life from the process, actually. And, I've become a much better person because of it, and I'm more able to improve myself now than I ever was before.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of several reasons- the main one is because this church is true. That seems not to say much, so let me elaborate a bit: I know that the church is true because it makes sense- it makes perfect sense, and it will always make sense. It has the why- so many religions I have learned of don't have the why- and knowing why we are down here brings an amazing amount of clarity and perception to everything in life. It asks exactly as much as it should- yes, this church asks a lot, but I wouldn't be comfortable with a church that asks less, or more- because the goal of this church is to make us better people. Not zombies, not carefree, but better people. It is moving- it's not a stagnant faith. We don't believe that every major event to come has taken place, that all is done, just wait till the world ends and do the best you can- we believe that a lot of stuff is still yet to happen, and that there is a lot of work to be done before Christ comes back. We are trying to do that work. Also, because this is Jesus Christ's church- he is personally leading this church. I want to follow Christ, so I seek to do his will. I'm not very good at it, but hey- no one is perfect! Finally, because it explains the nature of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ- this information is so, so important- because until we know who we are talking to and worshiping, we can't really do either effectively. That is why I am a Mormon... or to be accurate, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

How do I live my faith? Right now, I'm a Full-Time Missionary. So, I'm out every day sharing the gospel. I also live my faith by studying the scriptures as much as I can- I love to learn more about the gospel, and I'm always trying to understand it better- because the better I understand the gospel, the better I understand the world. I've also noticed something interesting too- the more you really understand the gospel, you start to see that we are actually not that different from mainstream Christianity at all. Finally, I live my faith by working to improve as a person- from getting into better shape to learning to love everybody.
