Hi I'm Jeff

I'm a father, a husband, an avid Edmonton Oilers fan, and a first-year medical student. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I have 7 siblings, and I love each one of them more than the other. I graduated from university with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Paediatrics, and am now embarking on a medical school career. My absolute favourite thing to do is spend time with my beautiful wife and handsome son. We love playing games with friends, watching movies, playing and listening to good music, and watching our son grow and develop. I also enjoy watching Oilers games as often as possible, even though they mostly just end up breaking my heart...

Why I am a Mormon

I personally believe that this life isn't a challenge to overcome, or simply lessons to be learned. I believe that we go through challenges and learn lessons in order to change who we are. We cannot change based on the experiences of others; we must go through them ourselves. Also, going through them isn't enough to make the necessary changes; this can only be done to the highest potential when we include the Saviour in our lives. As we learn in the Bible, the Lord's ways and thoughts are higher than ours, therefore to try and guide our own lives to the best of our ability is only tapping a minimal amount of who we can really become. I know that the Lord has established a way for each of us to become who we need to become through making our own choices. As we follow His established pattern, He can mould us into who we can be. This pattern has been established throughout history. God has called a prophet ever since the creation, with Adam being the first. He has called a prophet in our day to help us to know God's will for us today. Don't take my word for it; find out for yourself. Joseph Smith was the tool that God used to restore his church; God said that we would know the prophets by their fruits. The fruit of the prophet Joseph Smith is the Book of Mormon, he translated it by the power of God. As one recognizes that the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God, they come to know by the same power that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and this is Christ's church.

How I live my faith

I believe in being kind. Treating others the way they want to be treated is one of my greatest joys in life. I'm not close to being perfect at that, but I contintue to strive to becoming a little bit better each day. Even when my life isn't going great, I know that as I am kind to others, I will start to feel better... not necessarily that my trials will be removed, just that I can receive further strength and ability to overcome. I believe in following what I know to be right. I know that God will not punish us for acting (or not acting) in ignorance. He is a just God, and His true happiness is seeing us succeed. God didn't send us here to lose, so each of us learn a little bit differently and at a different pace. If I truly feel that I need to do something, I do it. If I find out later that that was not the right decision to make, I do not feel bad, because I know in my heart that God knows I was doing my best. I believe in faith. God will give us small assurances along the way, but it is our responsibility to do what we know is right even when we don't know why, or how, or sometimes even what will happen next. Assurances received in the past can lead to action, which will then lead to faith, which will increase our assurances. If we don't have action, we stop the cycle, hindering our own progress and the blessing our Father in Heaven wants to give us. There are so many things to believe in, but most of all, I just believe that God has a plan. It's perfect : )
