Hi I'm Jim

I'm a father of six. I'm an educator. I have cancer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a cancer patient. I enjoy classical music; especially playing the organ. I like working on model trains with my kids and making up my own recipes in the kitchen.

Why I am a Mormon

I've always felt a need to plan out my life and know as much as I can about the future. The church teaches about God's plan: where we came from, why we're here, and where we're going after this life. I've prayed to know about those teachings, and I can't deny the feelings that I get when I pray. The teachings are true.

How I live my faith

I'm the organist for my local congregation and also served as scoutmaster until my recent cancer diagnosis. One of my sons and I also visit several families each month to share a gospel message and see if there is anything we can do to lend a hand. We love helping others because it's through serving that we become more Christlike. By allowing others to serve us, we let them develop those same qualities.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Jim
Absolutely. God calls prophets to guide his children today just like he did in the past. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Jim
There are so many negative influences in our lives, taking a little time each day to read God's messages helps to strengthen me...like exercising and eating right to stay healthy. Show more Show less

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Jim
Anybody in the world can go into the temple. They just have to meet the requirements. Just like anybody can enter a music competition or a sports tournament! You just have to meet the requirements. We believe that the temple is such a holy place, personal purity is very important for those enter. Any age-appropriate worthy member of the church can go inside. The whole temple focus is on families. We go to the temple to learn about God and to be married forever...not just 'til death. We also know that baptism is the door to God's kingdom. In everyday things, we can legally give other people power to act in our name and the same concept applies to eternal things: A living person can be baptized in the place of someone who has passed on. That person is then completely free to accept or reject the baptism to enter God's kingdom. Show more Show less
