Hi I'm Heather

I am a Mother, a Musician and a Mormon

About Me

I love to sing! I studied music in college and have taught violin, piano and voice lessons. I have six wonderful children and a loving, supportive husband who also share my love of music. I love how music can be calming, invigorating, exciting and inspirational- whatever mood you are in, music can magnify and elevate those feelings! I also love to read, decorate cakes and spend time with my close friends and extended family.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are Mormon, and I feel very lucky to have been raised by parents who love each other and who have a deep love of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of their faith in Jesus Christ, they taught me about him and shared their beliefs with me often. They taught me to pray to find out for myself if the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it's teachings were right. They taught me that if I studied the scriptures and prayed I could gain a strong faith of my own. As a teenager I did this often when I would have questions. Through time I learned to hear the personal answers to my prayers. I have felt the love of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father many times as I have prayed. I know that God loves each of us personally. As a Mormon, we believe that God still speaks to Prophets today, like he did in the Old Testament and New Testament times. He does this because he loves us and wants to guide us if we will let him. Just like my parents taught me and gave me advice as I was growing, our Heavenly Father will always give us guidance. He loves us and wants us to be happy!

How I live my faith

I really love working with children, and one thing I get to do every Sunday is teach children to sing songs about Jesus Christ, Scripture Stories and other gospel topics. There are so many wonderful lessons that can be learned in the Bible and The Book of Mormon, and when you set these teachings to music they are remembered much better by the children. I love making learning songs fun, and I also like making sure they understand what the song is really about- what is the lesson they can learn from the words they are singing. Every week the young children in the Mormon church spend time singing, and they love it!

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Heather
Yes, we definitely do! I am currently reading the New Testament in my personal scripture study. Mormons study the Bible as children in Sunday School and they sing songs about Bible stories every week. In High School I (and most other Mormons) went to a class before school every day and we would study The Old Testament and The New Testament in detail. My favorite part of the Bible is Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I love reading about the life of Jesus and his teachings. Reading about Him helps me remember to try to live my life according to His teachings. Show more Show less
