Hi I'm Steve Schleiffarth

I'm a college student, I'm a cool guy, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 23 years old and I am married to the girl of my dreams. I come from a big family, the youngest of eight children. I have always had a close relationship with all of my siblings and they are very important to me. I love to spend time and hang out with them. I also love sports, especially football and water sports. I also enjoy film making. Currently I am a college student at BYU-Idaho and I recently returned from a mission to Nevada to teach people the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That was one of the greatest and most life changing experiences of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both baptized into the LDS church when my dad was in dental school, so I was raised in the church. But, that is not the only reason why I am Mormon. Everyone has to figure out for themselves if it is true. First of all, I know that the doctrines and teachings of the church are true. Reading the Book of Mormon was key to figuring that out. Everytime I read the Book of Mormon, I feel the spirit and it testifies to me that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and truly another testament of Jesus Christ. It is through that as well as prayer and going to church that has brought me to a knowledge of the truth. There are several other reasons why I am a Mormon: The principles taught in the church help me build better relationships with others, especially my family. Everyone is so nice and friendly, always willing to help out. Everything I learn and live that is taught in the church brings me closer to God and helps me to have true joy and happiness. I know that this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is Christ's church restored again to the earth. I know that The Book of Mormon is the word of God and that it will draw us nearer to God than any other book. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that through him Christ's church was restored to the earth. It is through His church that we can all recieve eternal life. I invite all men and women everywhere to learn of these truths, pray about them to recieve and knowledgeof their truthfulness for themselves, and then be baptized into His church through His power and authority.

How I live my faith

I try to live what I believe everyday. Some of the main principles that Jesus taught were those of love, for God, others, and ourselves. Everyday I put these principles into action. I show my love towards God by studying His word, praying to Him, and obeying His commandments. I show my love to others by striving to serve them and to be kind to all those around me. I also do my best to share the gospel with everyone that I see, so they can have the blessings which the Gospel of Jesus Christ offers. Finally, I show love towards myself by treating my body as a temple and trying my best to apply all of the teachings of Christ in my life. My faith is the focus of the way I live.

What is the First Vision?

Steve Schleiffarth
The First Vision is an important and sacred experience which occured in Joseph Smith's life. When Joseph was 14 years old, he had lots of questions about religion, such as: Which church is true? and What do I need to do to be saved? These questions were always with him and he searched hard for the answers, but every religion said something different and interpreted the Bible to mean different things. This left him very confused on what course of action he should take. Then one day he read James chapter one verse five from The New Testament. It reads, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." This passage struck Joseph with great power, it went into the deepest part of his heart and it would not leave him. So, one morning he decided to do as James directed, to ask God. He went out to the woods behind his house and knelt down to pray. What happened was a miracle. In his own words, Joseph said, " I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. ...When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!" His prayer was answered in a spectacular way! God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared unto him and taught him that none of the churches on the earth at that time were true. He was told that he must join none of them. It was this vision that began the Restortation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His true church upon the earth. Afterwards, Joseph was called of God to be a prophet and to lead and guide Christ's church here upon the earth. This is true, I know it and so can you and anyone else who sincerely wants to know. Just do as James directs: ask of God. Show more Show less
