Hi I'm Katja.

I'm a stay at home mom of two wonderful children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Germany. When I was sixteen I came to the United States as an exchange student to learn English. Little did I know, I learned more then just the language. I lived with a wonderful host-family, which soon became like my own family. They helped me learn the English language and the language of the Spirit. After my exchange year I returned home to Germany to graduate from High-school. I decided to get a bachelor's degree in the United States. After studying for a while I decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I returned home I met my husband and we are currently at graduate school with our two little children.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was sixteen I didn't believe in a higher being. I thought life was just life and once you die that is it. I never really thought about religious things before my exchange year in the United States. When my host-family started telling me about what they believe I became more and more interested. Going to church with them was very hard at first, since I didn't understand very much. Over time my English improved and I started to understand more. In my high-school at the time I was enrolled in a Seminary class, which is a religion class that teaches the believes and doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were studying the Book of Mormon and the more I read it the more I loved it. One night I decided to pray to find out if the Book of Mormon is true. I felt it in my heart, I had received an answer to my prayer and new that I needed to change my life to follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Ever since that day I have tried to learn more and to make the right choices that my Heavenly Father wants me to make. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that it has the power to change lives for the better. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that we have a living prophet today.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ is part of my daily life. I start out each day with a prayer. I teach my children about the Gospel and I try to serve those around me. Since I have two little children at home it is sometimes hard to get out to meet new people. That is why I think it is important to be a positive influence in ones neighborhood or in the extra curricular activities your children take part in. I want people to have a positive impression of me, so when they get in touch with the missionaries some day they will already have a good opinion about members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In our ward I am in charge of planning monthly activities for the women. I try to come up with ideas that will help them spiritually, that will help them strengthen their testimonies and that will bring the women together to talk and to socialize. I love my calling. It is fun to see when a group of women gets together during the week to share their testimonies and their faith. Sometimes it gets hard, but with my Heavenly Father's help it is possible for me to fulfill my calling. Since my husband is busy with school we try to have a sit down family dinner together each day. Some days that doesn't work out if he has to stay longer, but dinner time is usually a special time for us. We pray together as a family and we talk about the things that we have accomplished during the day or the things that didn't go so well. We love being together as a family and we center our home around the Savior Jesus Christ.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Katja.
No. All worthy men are encouraged to serve a mission. Women in the Church have the choice to serve or not. It is a personal decision that can only be decided through sincere prayer. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Katja.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is so important to us that we want everyone to hear it. I know that the gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ can change lives. It changed mine and I saw it change many lives on my mission. It is great to know that Heavenly Father is there, that He loves us and that He cares about each one of us. We want everyone to feel the joy of that great message. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about "eternal life?"

Katja.
Eternal Life is the greatest gift of all. We believe that after we have lived this life and have proven ourselves worthy, we will be able to return to our Heavenly Father to be judged and to live with him and our families forever. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Katja.
The priesthood is God's power on earth, which is given to all worthy, baptized men. It is here to bless us and serve us. A worthy priesthood holder can baptize and confirm a person to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He can give blessings of health, comfort or guidance. And he can serve others by blessing and passing the sacrament. Show more Show less
