Hi I'm Steve

I'm a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

About Me

I am an actuary (professionally). I live in Ohio. My hobby is mountain biking. I am a father of three boys, 18, 15, and 13. I was baptized when I was 11, but was converted upon reading the Book of Mormon as a 21 year-old.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I read the Book of Mormon - it has changed my life. Everything good in my life is a result of my spiritual conversion upon reading the Book of Mormon - my wife, my family, and many of my great friends. To this day I read and reread the Book of Mormon a number of times each year.

How I live my faith

I wake up every day and commit to stay true to the gospel, to my God, to my wife, and to my family. As a middle aged man I find that I enjoy attending the Temple - to serve those who have gone before me. I have volunteered for many years as a baseball coach for my boys. Recently my wife and I had the opportunity to participate in a ward service project to aid a local food bank. We put our faith to the test by going door to door through our neighborhood and asking our neighbors to participate with us in feeding those who are less fortunate - going door to door was not an easy thing for the two of us to do. But I found myself envisioning what it will be like someday when my wife and I decide to serve a mission together. I have found that I am happiest, and have great feelings of peace as I participate in service projects.

What is the priesthood?

Priesthood is the power and authority God gives to man to act in God’s name for the salvation of His children. Through the priesthood His children receive the ordinances of salvation, as well as blessings of healing, comfort, and counsel. Priesthood authority is required to perform the ordinances of the gospel. An ordinance is a sacred physical act with symbolic meaning, such as baptism, confirmation, or the sacrament. Each ordinance opens the door to rich spiritual blessings. The symbolism helps the participants remember the Father’s love, the Son’s Atonement, and the Holy Ghost’s influence. All the ordinances necessary for salvation and exaltation are accompanied by covenants with God. A covenant is a sacred and enduring promise between God and His children. God gives the conditions for the covenant, and His children agree to comply with those conditions. God promises blessings that are conditional on the person faithfully fulfilling the covenant. A man receives the priesthood by means of an ordination: An authorized priesthood holder lays his hands on the head of the one receiving the priesthood. The man who receives the priesthood makes a covenant to fulfill sacred duties (emulate the Savior in his role as a Father, for example), serve others, and build up the church. Show more Show less
