Hi I'm Emily

I'm a homemaker; a mother, a gardener, a musician, a baker. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to sing while I work and play and am thrilled when either of my two children sing with me. My husband and I like to sing in a church choir together. My family planted a garden this summer and learned to can when our garden produced more than we could eat. I graduated from college in Landscape Management and gardening is a relaxing activity for me. I enjoy playing the piano and cello and sometimes, while the kids sleep, I like to read a good book or work on a sewing project. Baking anything, cookies, pie, cake, muffins, makes my day; kneading bread dough is therapeutic for me. My husband shares an enthusiasm for visiting people and new places, and we like to drive, hike, camp, and visit family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the LDS church and have always been a Mormon. When I was in ninth grade, I decided I wanted to follow my Savior and be a better person. I searched the scriptures, starting with the New Testament and the Book of Mormon, and I found peace and strength to help me with every day stuff: tests at school, relationships with family and friends, and encouragement. As I continued to search the scriptures, I gained a personal testimony of the divinity of my Savior, Jesus Christ. I started to recognize the Holy Ghost in my life, guiding me, comforting me, and filling my soul with peace and joy each time I learned more or chose the right. I love my Savior. I love to read the Book of Mormon, the Bible, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. I am grateful that God is unchanging and prompts and loves His children living on the earth today. I know we have a living prophet through whom God speaks in our day. I know that I am a daughter of God and He has sent me here. He has not left us alone. I feel His love each time I sincerely pray.

How I live my faith

Sundays are fun for me because I enjoy worshiping as a congregation and following that, I get to teach beautiful, uplifting, and fun songs to the children at church. The children are so full of light and their hearts are pure and their emotions are real and far-reaching. I always come away happy. During the week, I am an Assistant Cub Scout Den Leader. Every Monday evening, my husband and I hold a Family Home Evening with our kids. We start with a song and a prayer and then have lots of jumping around, laughing, and talent-sharing with a spiritual thought and scripture mixed in somewhere. We try to have a lesson that we need to work on so it ranges from how to pray to being polite at the table to being hard workers. And we always have refreshments. For a few months, I visited a lovely lady in our congregation. She wasn't able to come to church often for health reasons. One night I was prompted to call her. She was sick, so I told her I would bring her dinner. That weekend she passed away. I will miss her, but I know she has gone home to Heavenly Father. I am grateful for the gift of the Holy Ghost that guides us to serve others just like Jesus served others.
