Hi I'm Jacob!

I'm a singer. I'm an outdoor enthusiast. And I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

About Me

I grew up in Syracuse, UT. I am currently serving a proselyting mission in Chicago, IL. I love the outdoors. The past four summers I have worked for the Boy Scouts of America on camp staffs both in Wyoming, between Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP, and in a little cove of Catalina Island, CA. The best was this last summer because I was able to work there with two of my younger brothers. I have 5 brothers and 3 sisters so all together we make 9 kids (which makes for a big Mortensen family.) Sometimes it can get a little crazy, but I love them all! I like scouting, hiking, rock climbing, swimming, snorkeling, eating wild berries and cactus fruit, raising rabbits and chickens, playing with my puppy, and occasionally you can find me playing around on my longboard or a sailboat. Oh, and I love to sing and play the piano too!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ!! The Bible and the Book of Mormon are definitely the scriptures of God, and they are given to us for many reasons. I love them because I learn a lot about my Savior when I read them. That is also were I find a lot of the answers to my prayers. I know that God speaks to us thru the scriptures. My family grew up in this church, but honestly it never became interesting to me until I was about 17 years old. That is when I started to take my personal salvation seriously. My study of the scriptures became imperative in my daily life and prayer was a regular activity. I really wanted to know if everything I grew up learning was true, like they said it was. One night, after much study and searching, I just knew that God loves me and that this is the church of Jesus Christ once again upon the earth. My prayer was answered. I know that Christ leads this church thru a living prophet. As I continue in my faith daily I continue to understand more, little by little, that all of this is true. And this knowledge that God has given to me, no man can take away.

How I live my faith

Living my faith to me is more than just what I do, it is how I really feel inside. I have come to love my Savior, Jesus Christ, and am doing my best everyday to follow him, and to have my will be what He would have me do. It has become freeing to me to give my choice over to God; which He has promised that He will not take from anyone. I know that true and lasting happiness comes from keeping the commandments and following our Lord. So, I will keep living my faith in my actions and in my heart, by doing what He would have me do.

Are Mormons Christians?

Definitely yes!! Jesus Christ is the center of everything we do. The very name of our church indentifies us with Him. Our sometimes common nickname "Mormons" comes from the Book of Mormon, which is another testament of Jesus Christ. We use this book alongside the Holy Bible. The prophets of these two books, like Isaiah and Mormon, testify of Him as the Son of God and our only way to salvation. His teachings are found all over in these books, His divine role as Savior outlined, and His own personal ministry to the people of Jerusalem and the Americas recorded. We try our best to become more like Jesus Christ everyday. Show more Show less
