Hi I'm Amy

I'm a newlywed and a special education teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the middle of five children and I grew up in a small town in Southern Utah. I served a mission for the LDS church in Washington DC. Last year I graduated from college with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education and am now in my first year of teaching. I work with 4th and 5th grade students and I love it! My husband and I have been married for almost a year and we enjoy traveling together as much as possible.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized when I was eight years old. My ancestors were all Mormons. Many of them crossed the plains with the Mormon Pioneers when they settled Utah over 160 years ago. But I choose to be a Mormon, not because that's what my family was, but because I made the decision to find out the truth for myself when I was very young. I knelt down and prayed to my Father in Heaven and asked Him whether or not the doctrine, as preached by the Mormons, was really His doctrine. I received an answer that it was. Through His teachings, I have learned many things. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior, and that He loves me. I have learned more about Him and His teachings as I study the Bible and Book of Mormon, which were both written by ancient prophets who spoke the words of our Heavenly Father. I know that He still speaks to us today through a living prophet. I love my family. Heavenly Father created families for us so that we could be happy and learn to love others as He loves us. He didn't intend for those bonds to be broken when we leave this life, but He has created a plan so that we can not only return to live with Him, but so that we might live with our earthly families for eternity as well. Knowing these things has brought much peace and happiness to my life. I know who I am and I know where I am going after this life, if I continue to follow His commandments. And I know I have a Father in Heaven who is watching over me!

How I live my faith

I realize I am far from perfect, but I try to live as Jesus Christ did. He spent His life serving others, so that they might know the love He had for them. I feel His love constantly in my life, and I want others to feel that love as well. I've found that serving in small ways can help others feel His love. For example, one day I went to one of my classes a little late. I slipped in the back and looked for an empty chair that I could quickly slide into without being noticed. But as I did so, I noticed a girl sitting off to the side who was seated by herself. I felt like I should sit by her, so I did. After class, I talked to her for just a few minutes and got to know her a little better. I didn't think much about it at the time. A couple of weeks later, I received a hand-written note. At first I wasn't sure who is was from, but as I read it, I realized it was from the girl who I had sat with that day. In the note, she told me that she was new to the area, and didn't know many people. She was feeling really lonely and sad that day, but when I went out of my way to sit by her and talk to her, it had changed her whole day. Ironically, the day I received the note, I hadn't been having a very good day. But upon reading the message she had written to me, my attitude was changed greatly that day. Maybe this story sounds a little cliche, but to serve others as Christ did, we don't have to work mighty miracles. We just have to be willing to love others, as He did. My husband and I also serve in our ward, or local congregation. We have been asked to teach a Sunday School class to the other adults in our ward. This year we get to focus on teaching from the New Testament. Neither one of us are scholarly experts when it comes to the scriptures. We didn't go to school or take any special classes to get this job. And we don't get paid for the time we spend preparing and teaching lessons. We do it simply because we both love the Gospel and want to share it with others.
