Hi I'm Erik

I'm a baseball fan. I have six children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 18 years and my wife and I have six children, ranging from age 16 down to 4 years old. I earned advanced degrees in communications and business and now work as a project manager. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family, serving in the church and helping coach my sons’ baseball and basketball teams.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ from my earliest days. I learned from their example, from the scriptures and from the teachings of living prophets. Through these and other experiences, I developed my own faith in Jesus Christ and my own testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. I recognized that there is safety, peace and happiness in living in obedience to God’s laws, and I made covenants to always follow the Savior. I have been richly blessed and will forever continue my dedication to my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

For as long as I can remember, I have prayed each morning and night to express gratitude to Heavenly Father for my many blessings and to ask for guidance and protection. I also study the scriptures and the words of living prophets every day. Our family studies the scriptures together daily, we follow the counsel to hold a weekly Family Home Evening and we attend church every Sunday. In addition, I find great joy in serving others and sharing the gospel with others. I have experienced many wonderful blessings as I have exercised my faith in these ways.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is God's law of health revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1833. It warns church members that the law is necessary due to "evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days" Doctrine and Covenants 894, and it prohibits the use of alcohol, tobacco and hot drinks coffee and tea, while encouraging a diet high in grains, fruits and vegetables and low in meat. This remarkable revelation came long before we knew fully the dangers of alcohol and tobacco and the importance of a diet as revealed by the Lord. The Word of Wisdom is more than a law of health. It protects God's greatest gifts to us our physical bodies and our agency. If we follow the Word of Wisdom, we are more likely to enjoy good health and freedom from the bonds of addiction. The Lord promises great blessings for obeying the Word of Wisdom "And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint. And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them" Doctrine and Covenants 8918-21. I have seen those blessings in my life as a result of my obedience to the Word of Wisdom, and I know these blessings are available to all who follow this law. Show more Show less
