Hi I'm Sam

Yeah I'm a Mormon - why aren't you?

About Me

I'm 20 years old, love the piano, like studying math and science, and just hanging out with friends. I like playing racquetball and volleyball, although I'm a better fan than player. I like teaching others and it always makes me happy when somebody has learned something new from me. I love robotics and will eventually use that field as a means to help others.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ gives me so much hope for the future. As I keep God's commandments, I am entitled to receive all that He has, just as everybody else who keeps His commandments. I am a strong supporter of His justice and His mercy - through repentance we can be clean of all our sins when we are brought into his presence. Hope, love, and knowledge - through modern day revelation we have the tools necessary to reach salvation and eternal life. The priesthood is God's power and authority to act and perform sacred covenants and has been restored to the earth once again. With only one source of proper authority, who wouldn't want to be a Mormon?

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a missionary. For two years I dedicate my life and efforts to finding those who do not have the complete and restored truth and help them to draw closer to God through sacred covenants and commitments.

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name. Since it is such a great power, it is not just given out to anybody. It is given to those who have prepared themselves for the responsibilities it contains. God is all-powerful. There are many instances in life when we need a power far greater than our own. When our will is moved into line with God's will, His power then has affect on us to change ordinary events into miracles. Every miracle performed by Jesus Christ or his servants was done through the priesthood. A police officer has authority to pull somebody over for speeding and give them a ticket. A taxi driver does not. In the same sense, one must be authorized by God in order to utilize His great power. And since His power can not be given to those who are unworthy, only select few are actually given that authorization. Only one man is authorized to receive revelation for the whole church - the prophet Thomas S. Monson. Now there are also varying levels of the priesthood. The Aaronic or lesser priesthood is for administering the outward ordinances or covenants. This means that people ordained to the Aaronic priesthood may bless, prepare and pass the sacrament, perform baptisms, etc. The Melchizedek or greater priesthood is for ministering of the holier and more spiritual matters of the church. This includes the power to give blessings, the gift of the Holy Ghost/confirmations, healings, etc. There is an order to all things in the kingdom of God. Show more Show less
