Hi I'm Wes

I'm a missionary, a college graduate, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Currently a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint's serving in South East Texas. I come from a family of 7. I'm the oldest child in my family. Before my mission I worked at a Subway Sandwiches Restraunt. I enjoy mountain biking, videogames, working on computers, and snowboarding.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a strong Mormon family, so I was raised in the faith, and Baptized a member of the church at the age of 8. However, i'm a Mormon because "I" beleive this to be the restored church that Jesus Christ established in his day. Not just because of pressure from my family, but becuase of the things I have felt. I'm also a mormon because I want my family, my children, to be as happy and blessed as I was while I was growing up.

How I live my faith

Currently I'm a missionary for the church. So I share this message that has brought my family and I so much happiness with those who are willing to listen. I also teach them how they can find this same happiness and joy in thier lives. When I was home living with my family, some of the ways I lived my faith were Going to weekly youth activities with my friends and other members of the church, Somtimes called "Mutual" Some of the principals we learned about were honesty, integrity, dilligence, and other Christ-like standards... but mostly we had fun. As I was growing up, and to this day I go to church weekly, services are usually held somtime sunday morning. I know that this had a huge influence in where I am today. The Mormon church is also really involved with the Boy Scouts of America Program. So we did a quite a bit of camping trips in the Utah/Wyoming area Some of the time scouting was what we did for our weekly youth activity. When I finish my mission I plan to continue to go to church, participate in other church activities/socials, and raise my kids in the same church programs I was raised in

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Wes
No Mormons are required to serve missions, however young men age 19 are encouraged to serve a mission. It is a great experience and oportunity to learn and grow. Single women age 21 and up may also serve missions if they so choose. Men serve for 2 years wherever they are called to sereve. Women serve similar missions but for 18 months instead of 2 years. During their missions missionaries do not go home for Birthdays, hollidays, ect. They call their families twice a year mother's day and Christmas, and email their families one a week.   Show more Show less

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Wes
The Bible is the writings of Prophets, holy men inspired by God in the Old World. Some of the records it contains are of the Creation of the world, the wanderings of the Children of Ireal, the Birth, Life, Misistry and Death of the Savior Jesus Christ, and the acts of his Apostles. The Book of Mormon is the writings of Prophets, holy men inspired by God in the New World. It is a record of the anceint Native Americans from about 600 BC to 400 AD. It tells of their civilazation, their wars with each other, how they believed in Jesus Christ, and how they found peace and happiness through his teachings and sacrifice for all of us.
