Hi I'm Sheridan

I'm a writer, waterskier, monster truck crewman, and best of all, I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a twenty year old fiction writer who loves activities like waterskiing, working with my hands, working on a monster truck crew, and playing the piano, and I am currently dedicating two years to serving the Lord as a full-time missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My Faith in Christ is grounded in the truth of the Plan of Salvation. As the only surviving child of three - having lost my two siblings to disease - I've had many opportunites to pray about the Plan of Salvation, the eternal nature of the family, and the promises of the Temple. The end result of each time of soul searching has been a strong comfirmation through the Holy Ghost that the Gospel of Jesus Christ as taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true! I continue to see the truth of it as I live each principle taught and I test the promises, watching for the promised blessings of the Lord. Every time, I've tested the Lord's promises, I have seen and felt their fulfillment personally which ever strengthens my testimony.

How I live my faith

Currently, I am serving the Lord in Virginia, USA as a full-time missionary - a travelling minister for the Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospel has blessed my life and my family every day, and now I can pay it back to the Lord the only way I can- by sharing it with all of God's children. I invite them to come closer to Christ, to build upon their existing Faith, and to recieve more and more truth that can bless their lives the same way it has blessed mine. And the best part is they don't have to take my word for it. If they will study, ponder, and pray to know the truth of what we missionaries teach, God will answer those prayers through the gentle, comforting warmth of the touch of His Holy Spirit. God has made that promise and He keeps it. He's done it for me and He'll do it for you too because He is your Heavenly Father and He loves you more than you could ever know.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

This question is a large chunk of my testimony- one of the deepest rooted parts of it. It goes back to the whole purpose of the temple. In the temple, husbands and wives can be "sealed" - Married or promised - to each other for "Time and Eternity," not just "til death do you part." And not only they, but their children recieve the promised blessing too. Families were organized by God. He ordained them as the basic unit of society, and they are intended to last forever. This is accomplished through Priesthood ordinances in the Temple when coupled with our living worthy of those sacred relationships by living the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the very best of our abilities.  Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a companion to the Holy Bible - a second witness - in declaring to the world that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Savior of all people. It is an ancient record kept simaltaneously by prophets who lived here on the American continents while the biblical records were being made in the Old World declaring to all that God is indeed the God of the entire earth and not Jerusalem only. The Book of Mormon teaches the fulness of the Gospel, as does the Holy Bible they stand together as co-witnesses to truth. Its coming forth shows the love of God to us as His children by backing up the teachings of the Bible, standing as a tangible evidence to the calling of Joseph Smith as a prophet, seer, and revelator to begin the work of preparing the world for the glorious return of its Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ.  Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Don't be afraid of the young people in shirts and ties with name tags, they're normal people like you. They have simply chosen to give their time and devotion to the Lord to go to each home, each family, each individual, in His name, to teach about His love, the message of the Restoration of the Gospel, why it was needed, why we need prophets in our time, what really is the Book of Mormon and why it's needed, what is God's plan for us, where we came from, why we're here, where we're going, and so much more. Missionaries are there to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a loving simple way, so that you and your family can build your Faith ever stronger.  Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

"We believe in God the Eternal Father, in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." God is literally the Father of our spirits. His son, both in spirit and in the flesh, Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world chosen to be so before the world was formed. After the death and ressurection of Christ, both our Eternal Father and Jesus Christ possess bodies of perfected flesh and bone. We are created in their image- when you look in the mirror, you see a shadow of your divine, eternal Father. The Holy Ghost, a third and physically seperate Being from our Father and His Son, has a body of spirit. This element of his nature allows him to influence many lives at the same time and allows him to bypass the barriers of our mortal, physical frames to communicate directly with our spirits- a more pure and direct method of communication. These three holy personages constitute the Godhead- The eternal First Presidency of the universe- and our capacity "to know them" is Life Eternal- we learn this truth from Jesus Christ himself.
