Hi I'm Vanessa

I love working with my hands. I recently adopted a beautiful daughter. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Idaho, spent 10 years in Utah, and now live in Missouri. I went to college to study art, and now I work for a software company and run a small sewing business from my home. I love ballet and any other kind of dance, I love making beautiful things, whether that be with paint, fabric, gingerbread, yarn, or any other medium. I also love waterskiing, and spending time with family. My husband and I have been married 5 years, and we recently adopted a beautiful six year old girl. I love seeing her happiness as she learns the gospel of Jesus Christ and feels the security of being in a loving family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a great family with parents who took me to church every week, and I never really questioned the things I was being taught. As a teenager, I decided that I needed to know for myself what I believed instead of just trusting what my parents taught me. One of my teachers at church talked about a passage in the Book of Mormon that tells us to do an experiment, and that as we try out the principles, we will feel that they are true. I started experimenting with the things I learned, and feeling the truth of them for myself. By experimenting and asking for myself, I have come to know that I do have a loving Father in Heaven who knows and cares about every small detail of my life.

How I live my faith

Our family reads from the Bible or Book of Mormon together and prays together each day, and I study the scriptures and pray privately as well. We go to church each Sunday, and I also go to weekly activities with the young women ages 12-18. These activities range from just getting together to play games, to learning life skills, to doing service projects and anything else the girls are interested in doing. I also teach Sunday lessons to the girls, and I hope that I can encourage them to experiment and find out for themselves if the things I teach them are true. I love the girls I work with, and I pray for help to know how I can help them through their own challenges. About once a month, I go visiting teaching, which means that another woman and I get together and go visit a few of the other women from the church in their homes. We share a message with them, find out how they and their families are doing and offer to help with anything they might need. Mostly, we just sit together and visit for a few minutes and it feels great to take some time out of a busy day to catch up with friends that way. I also try to make sure that my home is a clean and comfortable place that is full of love. I hope that anyone who visits my home feels that it is a safe and peaceful place where they can feel the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
