Hi I'm Charlotte

I grew up on a farm in Nevada. Attended college at BYU. And now live with my husband in Arizona. I have always been a Mormon.

About Me

I spend most of my day working in my husband's business. He is a cabinet maker and I do the books and secretarial stuff. The best part of my day is when my children or grandchildren stop by to see me or call me on the phone. I have 6 living children and10 grandchildren. I graduated from college with a pre-med degree in nutrition. I enjoy reading, writing, sewing, cooking, watching movies and doing whatever my husband likes to do---just hanging with him, and creating things that I see in stores or magazines that I can't afford.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a 5th generation Mormon, but that is no longer why I am a Mormon. My parents taught me all about the gospel along with my 10 other siblings. When I was not quite 2 years old, my mother discovered she had cancer. At one point she was given only 6 weeks to live, but she lived 9 years. Even though she died, I saw the hand of the Lord in preserving her life for as long as she lived. After my mother's death, my father forgot to take his medication for high blood pressure and he suffered a brain hemorrhage and stroke. He died when I was just 12 years old. For some people that might cause them to turn away from God, but for me---I found great strength and solace in finding God. I am a Mormon because I have studied it out and sincerely prayed about the doctrines of this church and I have tried to live by its principles. By so doing, I have come to know that prayers are truly answered, The Book of Mormon is not just any book, but is an ancient book written for our day by prophets of God, and the Mormon lifestyle is the best way to find deep and abiding happiness in this life. There is not a question that doesn't seem to have an answer in this church. It encompasses all truth. Because of the pattern Jesus Christ showed us as He set up His church in His mortal life, we can see that this church models His church perfectly. Jesus Christ is the entire focus of this church. He is my Savior and Redeemer. I am so thankful for the peace and joy I have experienced through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live by faith every single day. Life is not easy. There are many, many disappointments and challenges, but I have found that if I put my trust in the Lord and press forward His grace will make up the difference in my inability to cope. I have discovered that even if the church wasn't as we claim---"the true church" it wouldn't matter any more because it is the best way to live your life. Because of it and my faith in Jesus Christ I have spent a great deal of time serving others. I have taught youth who get up early in the morning and go to a class before school. I have taught young children of all ages. I have helped other people find their way to our temple and have helped them understand the purpose and value of the temple in their lives. I have helped many people all over the valley prepare for disaster or a down turn in the economy by helping them get food storage and at this time I am working with the adult women helping them gain spiritual strength on Sunday so that they can face their week. I also work in our Temple in Mesa one day a week. It has taught me so much and brought me so much joy. Through my different acts of service, I have gained the wisdom and fortitude I have needed to teach my own children and have been truly blessed as I have watched my children grow up and become dynamic adults who serve even more than I. There is so much joy in living God's plan. Why would anyone want to choose another way?

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

I have heard people of other faiths say we dress up on Sunday because we want to show that we are better than others, but that is not the reason at all. We dress in our best clothes as a form of respect and reverence to our Lord. We don't dress in really formal wear like a tuxedo or in casual wear because it draws attention to us rather than to the purpose for our Sunday meeting, that or worshiping. The Bible say that we should be a light to the world that others might see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven. By dressing in our Sunday best and not drawing attention to ourselves with our clothing or hair styles, we are truly worshiping and allowing others to also worship without distraction.
