Hi I'm Sharon

I'm a recent college graduate, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated from Linfield College with a degree in accounting with a minor in mathematics. I love to dance, read, write, play video games, listen to music (almost any kind except rap), and watch movies. I would love to work in the voice-over industry creating characters for children's TV shows and movies. I also love traveling and seeing new places around the world. I have been to 16 countries outside of the US and studied abroad for a semester in Norway. I hope to be a senior missionary when I'm older so that I can see even more of the world.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up with parents not of the faith, I had never known much about the LDS church and was always under the assumption that it was not a Christian faith. I met a wonderful teenage Mormon boy when I was 18 and he astounded me with how strongly he believed in his church. Much more so than any other teenager I had ever met. I had a ton of questions for him because I had never been able to ask questions about the church first-hand before. We started dating a couple of years later and every night on the phone I would spend hours asking him questions. He challenged me to truly pray out loud for the first time, and that was the most powerful evidence I have had of how true this gospel is. The first time I prayed out loud was truly a life-changing experience. At first I was unable to do it, and as my boyfriend continued to urge me on, I stopped being able to speak all together. I could not answer him when he asked me even a very basic question. Then he said a prayer over the phone that my tongue would be loosed and I would be able to speak and pray. The result was instantaneous and I prayed as tears streamed down my face. Prayer is such a wonderful tool and I can not stress enough how great it is that we can have a direct line to our Heavenly Father. It is such great proof of how true His gospel is. Without the power of prayer, we would not have this church on the earth today, and I would not have found my way back into His fold.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying each day to follow the basic commandments that our Heavenly Father has given us. I dress and act modestly out of self-respect, I try to give aid to those who need it whenever I can, and I try to not judge those who make decisions that I don't agree with. I have taught Sunday school and have held leadership roles in helping organize and teach lessons for the young women in my branch. I also make sure to pray often and read my scriptures so that I am constantly reminded of the love that Heavenly Father has for me, and so that I can always feel the guidance of the Holy Ghost in my life.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Sharon
Of course not! We are all children of God, and therefore we strive to help all of our brothers and sisters, whether they are members of the LDS faith or not. In fact, a lot of service projects organized by branches and wards are for non-member neighbors in the community. God's love knows no bounds and we are commanded to love and to serve everyone, no matter their background. Show more Show less
