Hi I'm Sally

my Church membership brings me so much joy! I grew up in Illinois and missionaries found me there.

About Me

I'm a wife, mom, grandmother, university instructor, quilter, beginning artist and avid reader. I love to travel and to entertain.

Why I am a Mormon

45 years ago, while my husband and I lived in married student housing at our state university, two Mormon missionaries came to our door. We were intellectually interested in Mormons, but had no intention of changing our church-going habits. After a few meetings with the missionaries, their message began to ring true for both of us. We read, attended church, became friends with others who were LDS graduate students, and finally came to accept the Book of Mormon's challenge to read and then ask for a personal witness. I felt a warmth and joy that was all new to me as I prayed for my answer. My husband's testimony began a bit later, after about three months. We were baptized together 5 months after the Elders first began to teach us. We have lived the teachings of the Church ever since and have found intelligent answers to questions we had always pondered. Where did we come from? Why are we here? What does life after death hold in store? We have raised our children with the help of others whose testimonies have been important in their lives. We love each other, our family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Our greatest joy has come as we've watched each of our children choose to qualify for Temple blessings.

How I live my faith

In my community, I have served on the Board of Directors of one residential youth in crisis facility and on the Advisory Council for an international micro-lending institution. I currently serve on the Board for my local Children's Hospital Telethon. I visit three sisters on a monthly basis in their homes to bring a message of encouragement and to check on their welfare. I teach a weekly scriptures class for 40 adults in my neighborhood. I serve in the Primary, teaching 9-11 year olds basic gospel principles. My husband was recently released as the Bishop of our Ward.   We have ten children and 46 grandchildren. I find great joy in the living of everyday!

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I have heard it said that when we want God to hear our voice, we pray. When we want to hear His voice, we read the scriptures. I believe that daily study can help us to be the recipients of individual, personal revelation. We recognize the voice of inspiration because it has become familiar, and we understand how to implement His direction because we have learned His patterns throughout history with His children.   Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

We believe that the family can be an eternal unit. When we perform ordinances in the Temple for those who have already lived their mortal lives, it's as though we open a heavenly bank account in their name. If, at some future day, the person chooses to "cash in" that ordinance, the account is ready for them. If their choice is otherwise, the ordinance work we've performed is dormant. There is no compulsion where our Father in Heaven is concerned. Show more Show less
