Hi I'm Lorene

I'm a mother of 8 children and 27 grandchildren. I also teach water aerobics at the YMCA. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As I was growing up, I attended 16 schools. We moved a lot!! I've lived in 11 states and 2 foreign countries - Ghana, W. Africa and Turkey.I love to travel! I attended college for 1 & 1/2 years, worked for a couple of years then met and married my sweetheart of 40 years. He and I have been blessed with 8 children and 25 grandchildren and counting! My life's work and passion has been being as good a mother and wife as possible. I really love being a homemaker and have always been proud to tell others of my "important" job. I truly believe it is the most important work I can do in this life. Don't get me wrong--I believe that getting an education is very important! So far, I have a son that is a dentist, another has his Master's in Electrical Engineering, one son with a Bachelor's in Business Finance, another son with an MBA in Business, a daughter with a Bachelor's in Social Work, another daughter with her Bachelor's in Fashion Design, another daughter almost done with her Associate Degree and a high schooler with a 4.08 GPA that wants to write a novel before she graduates. My sons and son-in-laws are blessed to have good jobs after completing their education. One is in the US Army and one daughter-in-law is a RN. I teach Water Aerobics part time at the YMCA and love the people I teach and the exercise I get. My husband is a wonderful father, husband and provider. He has worked hard all of our marriage-sometimes working side jobs just to make ends meet. I have a blessed life!!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the Gospel of Jesus Christ helps and blesses me in Every Way Every Day!! I know that is a bold statement to make, BUT it is true! Life is full of challenges and blessings-good times and bad times. When you have a family as big as ours, there are lots of good times and lots of tough times also. The Gospel of Jesus Christ helps strengthen me during the tough times so that I can endure patiently without blaming God or other people. The Gospel also helps me enjoy and realize the great blessings I have and where they have come from and who I need to thank every morning and night in my prayers. I know my Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ are Real and Love me personally and Answer all my prayers. They were there for me in Turkey when I was all alone in a hospital with my brand new baby who was choking and turning blue and no one else spoke English. My baby recovered and I felt a peaceful reassurance that helped me make it through that long, lonely night. That baby is now a healthy 6 ft. 5 inch tall, 36 yr. old young man with five healthy daughters of his own! How could I ever deny the truthfulness of this Gospel when I have seen and felt the healing power of its Priesthood time and time again in our ever growing, large family. I have watched miracles occur that have blessed our family just as the Saints in the New Testament were blessed and healed by Jesus Christ. I have felt and seen the healing power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I can't imagine raising teenagers without having a knowledge of repentance and the Atonement. The teen and college years can be real tough for both teens and parents. I'm so grateful for all the help the Gospel has given us in raising our children. We have all been taught how to keep the commandments, stay morally clean and how to be good parents, spouses, and children and how to have fun while doing it! The Gospel of Jesus Christ guides and blesses my life each day in every way ---not just on Sundays!!

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday. I try to be kind to everyone I meet each day. I've enjoyed working in the community mostly with the schools - being a Room Mother, volunteering on committees at the school, serving on the PTA Board and being on School Board Committees. I've been a PTA President twice and loved it. Working with the PTA is the best way to really get to know the principal, the teachers and all the school staff. And it helped me discover how many really good people live in our community and how much they care about the children and how willing they are to help with anything that is needed. I've also helped with Cub and Boy Scouts of America. I loved teaching Sports at our local Cub Day Camp when my boys were Cub Scouts. My husband and I also got to help our boys with their Eagle Scout Projects which involved a community blood drive, painting and repairing a local playground and mulching and fixing up an elementary school playground. Having been a member of the Mormon church my entire life, I have had the opportunity to serve in many capacities at church. I am currently the Sunday School teacher for the Investigator's class. I love getting to teach Gospel principles to new members and investigators of our faith. I also get to help the missionaries by going out with them and teaching investigators lessons in their homes. When you know what the Gospel of Jesus Christ has done for your life and how it blesses your family, you can't help but want to share that news with others!! I've also gotten to teach in the Women's organization, the children's organization and the youth (teens) organizations. Every opportunity to teach has helped me to grow closer to my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ. I'm sure that I learn more by teaching than those I teach. I've also learned everything I know about leadership and organization from my opportunities to serve in leadership positions at church. And I've also made some of my best friends by serving!!
