Hi I'm Johnny

I'm a Conservation Biologist, an Eagle Scout, a Watkins, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up the second of 8 kids in Southern California. I was raised by amazing parents on large doses of Star Wars, Road trips and much beach time. I eventually moved to Hawaii to study biology for a year with the ultimate goal of going into medicine. I have always loved being out in nature so whenever I had breaks in my studying I spent my time hiking up mountains, longboarding down them or at the beach. Then, when I was too sore to move, too sunburned to roll over and too scraped up to go out, I would read Science Fiction books for the rest of the day. Now I am in the great state of Minnesota serving as a missionary. We give all our time to help other people and it has been The most amazing experience I have ever had.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon but the bottom line is everyone has to find out for themselves. For me my conversion has been slow. To put it simply, living the way I do and living the way that Christ has taught us makes me happy. Its simple but that is really what it comes down to. Christ is the path to happiness. Every time I go to church I feel a part of myself getting recharged. It fills a void that nothing else can fill. I have found that if you really want to find out what something is all about you have to put your whole heart into it. Someone can say, "This band is amazing!". Or, "You need to try sailing, its the coolest thing of all time" but if you want to understand you have to listen to that band or take the time to learn to sail and then take a boat out yourself. My parents taught me that if I follow Christ I will be happier than I can even understand. I have put that to the test and it is true.

How I live my faith

We follow Christ and try to live as he lived. Christ taught the people the only way to lasting happiness and now as a full time missionary I am doing my best to pass his message along.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

God is our Heavenly Father. Even though he is incomprehinsible geater than us we are his children. Knowing that alone has helped me through quite a bit in my life. It dosent matter what other people think about you because God is watching out for you just like any parent would watch out for their children. Our goal in life is to become like God so that we can live with him again. I know that I for one am very very far away still but it is what we aim for.  Show more Show less
