Hi I'm Jay

I was born in Holland, Netherlands. I was three months old when I came to the US. I am a Mormon!

About Me

My Father was a caretaker for a large farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and I crew up there. I join The Church of Jesus Christ August of 1983 in Connecticut. My wonderful wife and I were sealed in the Washington DC Temple on September of 1984, along with our daughter. We have gone on to have four more wonderful children. Life is great! I am a jack of all trades, master of none, working in landscaping, on golf courses, in shipping and receiving, sales, office assistant and my favorite a school bus driver. My Father helped me to understand the value of work and I love to work, especially with my hands. I have designed and helped build our home and plant a garden every year, have in the past raised pigs, chickens and for a time had a horse when our children were younger. When I joined the Church it was the greatest day in my life, it has given me a sense of real purpose in life. I have come to truly understand that i am a child of a loving Heavenly Father. I have had a personal witness of who Christ is and strive everyday to become more Christ like in all that I think, say and do! The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, is the foundation of my life. I believe the Church has made me a better man, husband and father. I try to keep my life focused on the standards that the Church teaches.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon; well I have always felt that there was something greater than man in the universe; I did not at first believe there was a God; instead I felt there was something that made me greater then the birds and animals around me, but was not sure what that was. One day a couple of Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints answered for me some questions that had been on my mind for many years as I was growing up and early in my married life; if I am different then the animals around me then were did I come from? If I am different then why am I here? And last if I am different than what happens after death, I just can't disappear, wasting all that potential. I found that I have existence before this life, I am here to learn, develop my talents, and learn to be Christlike and one day I will pass on to the next life where Elina and I will have many more opportunities to grow and develop. I know God is my Heavenly Father, I know that His son Jesus Christ is real, he has atoned for my sins and will grant me mercy if I am faithful in keeping his commandment. I know that Joseph Smith saw a vision that changed forever our understanding of God, the creation and the purpose of life. I know that we have a prophet on the earth today, that God still speaks to us through His Prophet, that we still receive revelation for our day. I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

How I live my faith

I have put the Church in the center of my life; I strive to live, the best I can. It is not easy in this life with all the distractions that lead to immorality and dishonesty. I strive to filter what I read, watch on TV and Movies, and the music that I choose to listen to. I have learned to be a more patient and loving husband and Father and only my family can judge how I am doing in those areas, but I hope I have improved. I am grateful for the opportunities I have to serve in the Church, and have been blessed because of those experiences. Some day when I have retired I desire to serve a full-time mission with my wonderful wife wherever the Lord would have us go. As of today I have been retired just over a year, and my wife and I have received our Mission call to be, live at home Self-Reliance Missionaries, serving in the Massachusetts Boston Mission. We continue to be blessed by the Lord.
