Hi I'm William

I'm a father of 5, a fisherman, a duck hunter, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy gardening.....but only gardening that produces things to eat. I have a vegetable garden in my backyard and would like to find a couple of acres nearby to really increase production. I enjoy fishing....all kinds of fishing. Freshwater, saltwater....whatever. I enjoy hunting....mostly ducks but deer and turkey too. I'm a civil engineer. My favorite movie......Bridge on the River Kwai My favorite T.V. show........Magnum P.I.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was an infant, the missionaries contacted my family. We lived in Pascagoula Mississippi at the time. My parents befriended the missionaries and frequently invited them to dinner. My dad helped them work on their car from time to time. My mom felt the truthfulness of what the missionaries were teaching but my dad wasn't sure. Twelve years later we were living in Miami, Florida. One Saturday we were at the zoo and some missionaries approached us and asked my dad if we were a Mormon family. My dad said, "No, but we probably should be." The missionaries got our address and phone number and a short time later a missionary couple came to visit. They were an elderly couple from Syracuse, Utah. They were patient with my dad and tried to answer all his questions. They became really good friends. My family was baptized as a result of the love, patience, and understanding of that sweet missionary couple. My personal testimony grew slowly as I grew older. When I was 21, I accepted a mission call to New York City (Spanish speaking). What a wonderful experience, to be able to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the Spanish speaking people of New York City. That experience helped me to understand that Heavenly Father knows each of us individually, He loves us, and He wants us to be happy. Since my mission I have served in many Church callings and had many wonderful experiences as a result . After having written all of that......if I had to give a short answer as to why I'm a Mormon it would have to be because I have read the Book of Mormon, I have prayed to Heavenly Father and asked Him if it is true, and the Spirit has borne witness to me that it is true. I have had a myriad of other experiences that add to that but it all goes back to reading the Book of Mormon and praying.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving as the Bishop in the Mobile Ward. I've been blessed throughout my life to be surrounded by good people who share my beliefs and help me to be a better husband, father, and friend. I hope that in some way the same can be said about me. I try to follow the example of the Savior in helping those around me. I enjoy rendering service.....especially physical work for those who can't do it themselves. My family has participated in several clean-up efforts after hurricanes. It is always a special experience to help someone accomplish a task that seemed impossible.
