Hi I'm Kelli

I'm a small town wife, mom, grandma. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a middle aged woman, with a husband and 4 grown kids. We are expecting grandbaby #8 any time. I am a full-time wife. I love to sew, craft, go out for lunch, travel, check my email, and try new recipes on unsuspecting grandchildren. I use to write a weekly cooking column for our local paper, which was a lot of fun. We have recently started bee-keeping. I like summer better than winter and wonder each January why i moved from Arizona to the midwest. I am married to a doctor, a farmer, and a clergyman, and it's all the same guy!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a non-active mormon home, but my parents were supportive of me going to church, so i was baptized as an 8 year old. When i was a teeen-ager, i knew i needed to decide for myself whether or not the Mormon church was true. I prayed, read portions of the Book of Mormon and the Bible, and received an answer that yes, it was indeed true. I have, over the course of my life, asked and received many more witnesses of the truth of the gospel. The church's teachings (which are the Savior's teachings) have helped me through the hard times in life, and have given me hope and strength to keep on going! The most precious experiences i have had in my life have been directly associated with my family and the church.

How I live my faith

Besides trying to be a good mother, wife, and grandmother, i make sure to attend church on Sunday, even if we are out of town. I am a cub scout den leader in a pack that is sponsored by the church. I also have the responsibility of working with several of the the children's groups leaders, which is a new responsibility and i am learning a lot about it. Prayer and scripture study every single day is my goal for this year!

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Mormons tend to live a similar lifestyle as their neighbors, except we live in a more family-focussed way. Prayer before meals, family prayer in the morning and/or in the evening, and a short family scripture study are practised in devout mormon families. Dress is modest in comparison with the fashions of the day, which includes longer shorts, shirts and dresses with sleeves, and modesty in grooming as well. We like to get together with our neighbors, eat out, go to office functions, work at the farm, watch football, and work in our yards, just like everyone else. However, we won't be drinking alcohol, smoking, or drinking tea or coffee ever. There are many good mormon people who are single, never-married, divorced or widowed, etc. who are just as devout as a traditional family. You are not required to be married to be considered a good mormon. While some mormons choose to have very large families, many do not. Mormons do not, in general, stand out in a crowd of average people. You probably know several, and might not realize it! Show more Show less
