Hi I'm Julie

I'm a biology nerd, an ultimate frisbee player, a Texan, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a bit of a nerd, especially with all things biology. Learning about the way the world around me works and especially about the intricacies of the human body is one of the most exciting things to me and it makes want to make everyone as excited about cellular respiration and meiosis as I am. That's why I am studying to become a high school biology teacher. School is most of my life right now, but I love to play the piano and sing. I sing soprano in a choir at my school so I get to have a lot of fun singing really high all the time. I am definitely someone who likes studying with music on in the background. When I get the chance I also really love to go hiking, play ultimate frisbee, and almost any board game you can think of. I have five siblings which has always been great because there is always someone to play with. And now that I have 11 nieces and nephews, it is always a party with my family; that's one reason I love being with them so much.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saint my whole life but as everyone does eventually, I had to know it was true for myself. While I was growing up, my parents helped me understand the things that they believed, but I also knew that I needed to discover and decide what I believed. And after all of that time of questioning and searching, I am Mormon because when I read the Book of Mormon I feel peace, my Heavenly Father's love, and I know the things that I should be doing. I am Mormon because when I read or hear the account of the Joseph Smith and the First Vision I get a feeling of joy that makes me want go out and serve those around me and it doesn't go away. I am a Mormon because of answered prayers; because when I ask if this church is Christ's church I feel deep inside a calming and peaceful assurance that it is. I am a Mormon because it has helped me find the purpose of and goals for my life right now on Earth.

How I live my faith

On Sundays after church I help organize a group of us who like to go sing hymns to the patients and workers in the local hosptial. I think it's a really great experience for both of us because a lot of times, those at the hospital haven't had the opportunity to go to church that day and it gives us a chance to share our testimonies through song. It is cool to see how two groups of people who at first no nothing about each other can be brought together through music about Jesus Christ.

What is faith?

Julie
Faith is the absence of fear. I think that faith is always trusting in the Lord and his plan for us. Faith is what allows us to move forward and do more than we thought we could. There have been and I'm sure will be many more instances in my life when the gaps in my understanding will weigh on my mind, but my Faith is the thing that bridges those gaps. I know that there are many things that I do not understand right now about why certain things happen but I also know that God does know why. And I know that He loves His children and being a perfect Father, He knows what is best for them. Show more Show less
