Hi I'm Eric

I'm a programmer and a business owner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am husband to an amazing wife and father to two wonderful kids that keep me laughing, guessing, and running. I own a paintball rental business and am a software developer. I love to hike, camp, and snowboard.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a believing family and a doubting body. As a youth, I wanted very strongly to know for myself that if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the true church. I read the Book of Mormon and prayed often to know if the Book of Mormon was true. One day after saying such a prayer, I felt that I should read Joseph Smith's account of when he saw God and Jesus Christ as a young boy. I was flooded with emotion as I felt a burning witness that this event did happen and that the Book of Mormon and the church were all true. I have testified of these truths many times and when I do, I feel a similar feeling come over me. I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true as restored by the prophet Joseph Smith. I know that the principles and ordinances provided by this gospel make it possible to live with my Father in heaven, with Jesus Christ, and with my family for eternity.

How I live my faith

Once a month, I teach a class at church to the adult men. We discuss various topics of the gospel and their influence in our lives. Each week, I attend meetings with other members and learn from others in similar classes. Every day, I do my best to teach children by example and word, how they can be like Jesus and keep the commandments of God. I try to be an example of the believers to all I come in contact with.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Eric
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began in April 1830, only one month after the printing of the Book of Mormon. To the members of the church, this book was a companion to their beloved Bible that gave further testimony of Jesus Christ and gave further insight to his teachings. To the rest of the world, it was the Book of Mormon that made them different. Much like most other nicknames, the most memorable part of the difference is what stuck as the name. Show more Show less

What is faith?

Eric
Faith is knowing that the sun will rise, the newspaper will be on your doorstep, your email will be in your inbox, and there will be a paycheck at the end of the week. It's knowing that data flying through the air will 'magically' become a voice on a cell phone or a video on a laptop. In the world today, we see less and less of what we experience and we understand less and less of what we use. Faith is believing in something that you cannot see. We have faith every day in so many little things because somebody has said something. We send money over the internet in faith that somebody will send us an item purchased on ebay. Heavenly Father has promised us eternal life. Faith is following his commandments and believing that he will keep his promise. Show more Show less

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Eric
Chastity is keeping our bodies pure by abstaining from inappropriate sexual activity. Sins against our chastity begin as thoughts, thoughts which are very easy to come by and often very hard to dispel. The female figure is one of beauty but also one that sparks sexual thoughts in any unrestrained male minds. Any immodesty enhances the level of such thoughts. If only women could truly understand the workings of the male mind, I think there would be little arguing on the subject of modesty. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Eric
The Bible is a compilation of Holy Scripture written by those who were witnesses of Jesus Christ and God the Father. Despite lost books and difficult translations, the Bible has survived as a testimony of Christ and his gospel. However, even such a book can be interpreted and construed to mean a variety of things. There are thousands of churches today based off of the Bible that teach a whole slew of different ideas, many entirely contradictory to one another. One of the many reasons for such a restoration is simply to have God's word. In the past he clarified his word through prophets that would not only speak as he have command but who would interpret the scriptures of past prophets by his guidance. We have a prophet today who speaks with God and helps us to understand his word for our day and time. Show more Show less
