Hi I'm John

I grew up in the midwest, USA. I am just an average guy who is a convert to the Church. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from a large family, but 5 of 9 children are mentally handicapped. My father died while I was in early grade school. I am a convert to the Church. I am married and the father of 3 grown children. I do woodcarving, gardening, getting junk and fixing it or scraping it. I live in the country and love it. I retired early from my job in nuclear power. I am very uncomfortable sharing my feelings and information like this. I do not like technology much.

Why I am a Mormon

Several decades back I met and married a wonderful young woman who was a member. She let me know it was her expectation that I would be a member before she’d marry me. I joined and have learned it was the best decision I ever made. Though my understanding was weak at first, what I did understand made sense to me. God, our Father, wanted what was best for me. He KNEW what was best for me. To be with Him I had to accept the atonement of Jesus Christ and do the things that bring happiness in life. Over the years I have seen that when I followed his teachings, life was much better than when I did not. I know the Church is true due to the way the Spirit has been manifested to me about the Book of Mormon, the prophet Joseph Smith, and modern day revelation. I know that God hears all of us and answers, not just select people.

How I live my faith

I try to live a good life. I serve my family, serve others, serve in the Church, and serve in my community. Jesus came here to serve and we can do no better than to try and emulate him by providing what service we can. I try to read scripture every day and am trying to apply the lessons it teaches in my life. I vote and try to learn about the history of my country and other countries and times to further my education. I try to be self-reliant and debt free as our Prophet tells us we should. I try to grow each day spiritually and seek revelation that is applicable to myself and my family through prayer. I am writing this because it is supposed to help other people to understand the common Mormon, otherwise I have no other interest in technology, except I have necessary e-mail. I am not as friendly and outgoing as most Mormons but I have a place in Jesus’ Church too. I am accepted for who I am and what I can do.

Are Mormons Christians?

Yes. I believe the only way to return to our Father is by accepting the atonement of Jesus for my sins. He is my Savior and Redeemer. He has done his part. My part is to live a life which honors his sacrifice. Show more Show less
