Hi I'm Mellissa

I love laughing and my mom's homemade bread. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a lucky gal. I'm happily married to my best friend, and we have three amazing children. I love learning about anything and everything, and I would be hard-pressed to choose one subject to study. I enjoy writing poetry, especially about nature and what life was like for me as a kid. I love reading. I enjoy playing sports. If you put a ball in my hands and explain the basic rules of the game, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the game. Some of my favorite sports are basketball, tennis, and pickleball. I also love music. I've played the flute for 22 years, I sing in my ward choir, and just recently I joined a handbell choir, which is so much fun. I love spending time with my family, especially playing board games or taking hikes. It's truly rewarding watching my family laugh, love, and play together.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I choose to be. I was raised as a Mormon, but my testimony and knowledge of the gospel was based on what I observed from my family and church leaders. For a long time I rode on the coat-tails of everyone around me. But as I grew and matured, and especially when I had children of my own, I learned that I needed a testimony. I needed to know who Christ and God were, and I needed to know that they loved me. It took a lot of time, humility, and patience to gain my testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that it was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know Joseph Smith truly did see God, the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and they did speak to him. I know the Church is led today by a living prophet, and he receives inspired counsel from our loving Heavenly Father. I know Jesus Christ lives. I know Jesus suffered for each one of us because He loves us. I know Jesus loves me! I am a Mormon because I know it is the only way for me to return to my Heavenly Father, and that is exactly where I want to be.

How I live my faith

I am so very blessed to have the opportunity to work with the children in my ward! I work with children from ages 18 months old to 12 years old. Each Sunday I get to see their beautiful, radiant faces. Even though I am a leader for the children, each week they teach me more than I teach them. They are beautiful and so ready and willing to feel Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ's love in their lives. I also have the opportunity to participate in visiting teaching, which is pretty much like it sounds; we visit and we teach. It's a wonderful opportunity to get to know sisters in the ward by serving and loving them. By visiting them in their homes, we come to see more facets of their lives, and see how brilliant and bright each sister is.
