Hi I'm Brian

I'm a father of four, an avid mountain biker, a passionate landscape designer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Mountain biking, rock climbing, waterskiing, anything to get outside. I love my four children and watching them grow up. They never cease to amaze me with their perspective of the world. My beautiful wife always makes me strive to do better and I am so in love with her. Currently I'm working to become a licensed Landscape Architect so I can change the world through changing outdoor spaces that we all inhabit. When we first got married I was finishing a degree, running my own cabinet shop, we built our first house, and had our first child. Shortly thereafter we left it all on a feeling from the spirit. We ended up in Albuquerque New Mexico, somewhere we never even considered but we loved all of our time there.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was born my parents were members of the church. Even so I went through a period in my life where I had to decide for myself if the things I had learned as a child were true. I have prayed for myself, asking God himself, to know if the gospel taught in this church is true. I have received answers that it is true. I continue today with every question I have about the gospel, to study about it in the scriptures and then pray for confirmation. Over the years I have had confirming witnesses again and again that the scriptures, both the Bible and the Book of Mormon contain the word of God. That God has chosen a prophet, even Joseph Smith, to fully restore His gospel to the earth, and that he calls prophets today to continue to reveal His truth to us. That we may know, that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all of us, and more personally, that he is my personal Savior.

How I live my faith

I was recently released as the Sunday School President where I spent a great deal of my time teaching the youth of the church. I love teaching, and especially I love teaching teenagers. I love helping youth understand the teachings in the scriptures and how they can apply the teachings of the scriptures to their own lives here an now. There is so much excitement watching the small flames of their testimonies grow as they come to realize how the teachings of Christ really apply to them. I try to start everyday reading the scriptures. It is precious time to me each day to stop and give Heavenly Father time to teach me more about His gospel.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Brian
Faith in Jesus Christ doesn't just happen. You have to work for it. I discovered my faith increasing when I decided to study the scriptures for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. Doing so has allowed me to understand the doctrines of the gospel on a deeper level. Scripture study coupled with daily personal prayer where I really try to converse with my Father in heaven, and seek to know His will concerning me, rather than give him a list of my wants and needs and ask him to grant them as if he was my personal butler. The best way I have found is to seek to do as Jesus did. Be friendly with everyone I meet. Go the extra mile and help people beyond what is expected. Avoid judging people and try to find the good in people, rather than dwell on their weaknesses. I've found that seeking to do God's will and striving to live like Jesus Christ taught us to live, has not deprived me of anything, rather by doing things Heavenly Father's way has freed me and brought me more happiness than trying to do it my own way.
