Hi I'm Serena!

I'm a Chemical Engineering student. I love playing soccer and reading fantasy novels. I love being Mormon.

About Me

I love playing soccer and volleyball, and I'd spend everyday at the beach if I could (California girl all the way!). I love fantasy novels (like Jordan and Goodkind) and am a huge movie watcher. I attend a public university in California - we don't all attend BYU - and I study chemical engineering because I hope to get into explosives one day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, and while I relied on my parents' testimony when I was little, I gained my own in my early teens. My friend had been in a severe accident the week before and he was pretty seriously injured. I fasted and prayed for most of the next week that he would be okay and that his surgeries would go well. I was touched by the Holy Ghost and knew that he was being watched over and comforted. I'd never felt peace so strongly as I had that day. The Holy Ghost is a comforter and a guide in my life, no matter what I'm going through. He leads me to make the right choices so that I can be safe and happy. He is with me as long as I am worthy - a manifestation of God's grace. The Holy Ghost is proof that my Heavenly Father loves me! He wants me to return to live with him and gives me commandments that I may do so. The scriptures are his words, and by following them, I am blessed. His prophets, both past and present are his mouth-pieces and guide me in my life. Every prophet who has lived, has testified of Christ, his love for us, and his atoning sacrifice. I'm so grateful that someone loved me enough so that I can live with my family forever!

How I live my faith

I try to keep the commandments as best as I can. I know that I'm not perfect, but I strive to be. I love helping out in the community and at church because the people are so amazing! Everyone is different and they each have the light of Christ - a beacon of truth and love - and seeing that manifest in them gives me such hope! I lead the music during our Sunday services - I'm a chorister. I love music because it brings the spirit so quickly and touches so many people. I also visit several girls in our congregation - they are my responsibility. While both of them are a little older than me, I'm there for them if they need anything. I visit them at least once a month and talk with them about their life and share a quick spiritual thought with them. They are such great example to me and I love them so much!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Many Mormons serve a mission because they love the gospel of Christ so much that they want to share His words with everyone. They see how that truth has blessed their lives and the happiness it brings to those who follow it. Not everyone does, and those who don't miss out on the great opportunity that it is - to lose themselves in the service of their God! What greater work can there be? Show more Show less
