Hi I'm David

I am a husband, father, coach, educator, adventurer, athlete, scholar, and writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father in a family that loves to do things together. We enjoy activities like soccer, camping, hiking, cycling, swimming, shooting, sports and trying new things like martial arts. During the summer, you may see us visiting national parks or beaches, constantly searching for the best place to get an amazing sandwich. In the evening you can find us playing board games, reading, or enjoying a movie or video game. I have completed graduate studies in education and work as a curriculum writer and professional educator. I also am actively involved in local politics.

Why I am a Mormon

I have noticed that when I live according to the teachings and tenets of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am at peace. Regardless of the challenges I face, I am calm because I know what God expects of me. By following the example of Jesus Christ and relying on His sacrifice to make up for my inadequacies, I feel anchored and stable through the storms of life. When I do not live according to these teachings, I lose track of what is important in life and am not at peace with myself, my family, or with my Heavenly Father. Being a Mormon has given me direction for this life, and the hereafter.

How I live my faith

I spend a lot of time with teen age members of the Church of Jesus Christ. We meet together either before school or during breaks. I help them understand the teachings and experiences contained within the scriptures in order assist them in meeting the challenges they currently face.

Why is it important for us to take care of our bodies? Why are our bodies called temples of God in the Bible?

David
Our bodies are gifts from a loving Heavenly Father. In Paul's letters to the Corinthians, he referred to them as temples because they can be holy places where - when we live clean and wholesome lives - our Spirit can dwell in peace and be inspired by the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less

What blessings can we receive through the gift of the Holy Ghost?

David
The gift of the Holy Ghost can teach and confirm truth, particularly truths about our Savior Jesus Christ. He helps us remember things, and guides us on a safe path back to our Heavenly Father. (John 14:26; 15:26) Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

David
If we want to learn if the Savior's teachings are true, we should live them, and see how doing so leads us to feel. We find those teachings in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Both books were given to increase our faith. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

David
Each member maintains his or her unique likes, dislikes, personality, and individuality, yet we all strive to live Christ-centered, clean, honest, wholesome lives. If you would like to know what it feels like, try it out for a while and see how good it feels! Show more Show less

Why is family so important to Mormons?

David
We believe that one of the reasons Heavenly Father gave us the opportunity to come to earth was to form eternal families. The joys which come to a family who care for each other and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ can continue beyond the grave through sacred ordinances performed in the Lord's holy temples. What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

David
Part of our purpose here on earth is to form eternal families. A husband and his wife possess the God-given abilities to procreate. Together they are two halves of a whole. Each possess gifts and abilities necessary to the creating and rearing of children. God has ordained it such, and any lifestyle that inhibits the progression towards forming eternal families is not in accord with God's plan and purpose for life. "Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 11:11) Show more Show less

Why is authority to perform a baptism important?

David
Just like governments issue passports, Heavenly Father issues the authority to perform the ordinance of baptism. Paul, from the Bible, taught that no one can choose to get this authority, they need to be chosen by God like Aaron. (Hebrews 5:4) Aaron was given that authority by the laying on of hands by Moses, who also received it by the laying on of hands. Since God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, this pattern must continue, and it does in The Church of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What is the Church's position on abortion?

David
The ability to create life and experience life are sacred gifts from a loving Heavenly Father. Women who bear children are a vital part of that gift of life. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages adoption when possible instead of abortion. There are many wonderful couples who are unable to bear children who long for the opportunity to raise a child. The Church has adoption services available to assist those giving up children to find suitable, safe, loving homes for the child to be raised. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

David
The choices people make, along with the natural events of life on this earth make our experience unpredictable. When we are prepared, we can protect those we care about. There is safety that comes from relying entirely on God, and working to protect, assist, and care for our families and our fellow men. Show more Show less

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

David
When I want to get to know Heavenly Father, I pray. During those prayers, I stop to think and listen to what I feel. Often I will feel like I should read a specific passage of scripture. Often reading that passage will teach me about Him or answer my questions. This helps me know that my Father in Heaven cares about the things occurring in my life. Show more Show less
