Hi I'm Allen

I am a citizen of the United States but I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

I am a husband and a father of three. Professionally, I work in health care as an Optometrist. These two roles occupy most of my time. Additionally, being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ creates opportunities to serve in many various positions which I find rewarding and enjoyable. I love the power of good music and so much of my remaining free time is devoted to songwriting, singing, and playing my guitar. When opportunity allows, I also break away to rivers and streams where I delight in fly fishing.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been blessed with a great heritage in the restored church of Jesus Christ. Several generations on both sides of my family converted and held fast to the teachings of Jesus Christ. This allowed me to experience the advantages of living life according to God's plan at a very young age. However, regardless of the age at which one is taught the gospel of Jesus Christ, each much ultimately find his own conversion and maintain that conviction through out his or her life. My own conversion and conviction has been realized through numerous experiences. Most of my faith has come from following a simple pattern of study, ponder, pray, apply, and recognize. I study the scriptures and teachings of the prophets. I ponder their implications to my personal life. I pray to know of their validity and for the courage to pattern my life after what I have learned. As I am successful in applying these teachings in my life, I come to recognize that applying this pattern has brought me blessings such as: knowledge, sense of purpose, satisfaction, and happiness. This realization reinforces my faith and gives me the conviction that I need to repeat the process over and over again. Although this process may seem unexciting and prolonged to some, there have been many unexpected, miraculous, and glorious events that have convinced me that I am truly on the right path. The feelings and life changes associated with these experiences make me certain of a loving Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son who is a Savior for me--for all of us. It has been my experience that God will establish this special bond with any who seek Him. I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ because it has allowed me to develop this relationship with God; it provides all the ordinances and opportunities for learning and living God's eternal plan of happiness.

How I live my faith

Belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ is more about a life style than about which church building I drive to each Sunday. Every day I exercise faith by what I do and say. For example, daily I say prayers and study the scriptures or the words of our modern prophets; this I may do personally, as a family, or with a congregation. Daily, decisions are made to obey God's commandments, be honest, practice charity and service, and seek personal inspiration to guide my life and bless the lives of others. Weekly, in addition to attending church worship services, I have opportunities to strengthen my family through family home evening, serve in church assignments, prepare lessons and talks to be given at church meetings, visit those in need, and to strengthen and lift the downtrodden. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in our area volunteer labor for a welfare farm that provides produce to members in need of food. There are even seasons when we can give our all as when I was able to serve a full time mission for the church of Jesus Christ. Living my faith in this manner provides peace, hope, and happiness--it's a great way to live.
