Hi I'm Michael

I grew up in Texas and I loved being Catholic. Now, I'm a Mormon and I couldn't be happier.

About Me

I'm a husband, father and grandfather. I've been a journalist all my life and I love it when stories we've written help make my community a little bit better. I love baseball, flyfishing and being with family. Nothing makes me happier than bringing a smile to other people's lives.

Why I am a Mormon

I never wanted to be Mormon. I loved being Catholic. Who wants to go to church for three hours every Sunday? Who wants to be in some weird cult? When my brother first sent missionaries over, I listened to them to be courteous. But everything they said sounded right to me. But it wasn't until I finally read the Book of Mormon that I knew it was true. And it wasn't until I prayed and fasted that the Holy Ghost truly made manifest to me that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was God's church upon the Earth.

How I live my faith

People often think Mormons have too many rules. You know what I say to that? To echo a phrase used by church President Gordon B. Hinckley to answer CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace, "Isn't it wonderul?" Isn't it wonderful that God has given us commandments to guide us through life so that we can return to Him if we're obedient. If we obey His commandments, then we have no guilt, no fear of the consequences of sin. No one says it's easy to avoid sin. Temptations abound everywhere. But there's no greater happiness than obeying the commandments and knowing that I'm doing what Heavenly Father wants me to be doing. That's how I live my faith, by following His commandments.
