Hi I'm Chris

I'm a husband, a father, a tennis player, a software engineer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. At the age of 10, my father built a tennis club, and over the years I have had the opportunity to play, compete, coach and teach tennis. I played a year of college tennis before heading into training for my career as a software engineer, which I have now been in for over 28 years. I am married to a wonderful woman and we have 5 children.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, my family and I were members of the Lutheran Church, which was a tradition for my family, since my great grandfather came from Sweden as a Lutheran pastor. However, I never really understood or felt close to the teachings and I had a lot of unanswered questions. There came a point in my life when I went through a very difficult time and I didn't know if I would ever be happy again. I had a 1yr old daughter and I didn't want her to grow up without the same love and happiness that I had grown up with. I knew that the happiest times in my life came while being around my family and those were the feelings that I wanted to have with me always. Although I had never really prayed much, I remember one night praying for what seemed like an hour, asking and pleading with God for help and guidance so that I could be happy again. Several months later that I was introduced to wonderful woman, who is now my wife. We started dating and the subject of Church came up. What struck me the most was the talks we had about the purpose of life. Everything that we talked about was so clear, that we did exist before this life, that we have a Father in Heaven, that we live this life to be tried and tested and that Jesus Christ, God’s son, prepared the way for us to return to His presence, and that we can have a life of happiness with those we love, for eternity. Also knowing that our Heavenly Father continues to talk to his children through a prophet of God, just like he has done in the past, was truly amazing. I knew then that my prayers had been answered.

How I live my faith

I have had the opportunity to serve the Lord in many different capacities, such as a youth basketball coach, a Sunday school teacher as well as serving in various leadership positions. The gospel has given me a direction and the happiness that I had wanted. Do I stumble and fall? Sure I do, we all do. It is what you do after you fall that determines who you are. It's easy to go with the flow of the world today, but going with the flow won’t lead us to where we want to end up. Heavenly Father knows and loves each one of us. He knows that we will stumble and fall, and he is there to help us up and move forward if we will only ask for His help.
