Hi I'm Ryan

I'm a Texan. I'm an engineer. I'm a husband and father. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

After growing up in Colorado, I attended college at Brigham Young University in Utah and finally settled in Texas. I love Texas and am proud to identify myself as a Texan. I am an electrical engineer, and work in the semiconductor industry in Austin. I'm a father of four, and husband to a remarkable woman for the past fifteen years. My interests include hiking, mountain biking, history, politics, entrepreneurship, technology, and sports. I love to read nonfiction, and relish the opportunity to learn from others by reading history and biographies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by faithful LDS parents who instilled in me a desire to do the right thing. I learned the principles of the gospel, but didn't find myself seriously challenged in my faith until I served a mission in Germany. Although not diagnosed until after my mission, I have struggled with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) since early in my childhood. The combination of anxiety along with the rigors and challenges of a mission (and a new language), proved very difficult. I found that great difficulties produce opportunities for great growth, and am very grateful for my mission experience and the personal growth that it afforded me. It established the foundation for my testimony of God, His son Jesus Christ, the reality of His atonement, and the restoration of the fullness of the gospel through the prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

Living the gospel as understood and taught on the LDS church is challenging but rewarding. As with all members of the church, I've had the opportunity to serve in various roles in the church, from teaching Sunday School, to working with the Boy Scouts, to working as an aide to the bishop (the leader of a congregation). I've found that serving others helps to combat selfishness and ultimately leads to a happier and more satisfying life.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Ryan
The Book of Mormon is truly a remarkable book of scripture. It stands next to the Bible as a witness of the divinity of Jesus Christ, and of His role as Savior and Redeemer of mankind. It was written by prophets in ancient America. Their people practiced the gospel and kept records similar to the books in the Bible. The Book of Mormon lays out some of the most beautiful and simple doctrines of the gospel in a clear and powerful way. I am fully convinced that the sincere reader will find their testimony of the Savior greatly strengthened by reading the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
