Hi I'm David

I grew up in So. Ca. and now reside in the Ca. Central Valley, working hard as a Correctional Officer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a big family and have the best siblings and parents ever. I grew up hunting, hiking and surfing with my brothers and though I don't hunt and surf much anymore, I have a great love for the outdoors. I'm at great peace camping and hiking. When I was 19 I served as a missionary for the Church in Spain for 2 years. After I came home I never could quite figure out what I wanted to do for a career, so I wasn't to successful at college. But I got a great job, of all things, as a Prison Guard. I figured I would stay with that until I learned what I wanted to do for the long term. It turned into a great career and has been a huge blessing to me and my family. In my late 20's I married the best looking girl I have ever known and now we have three boy's, two teens and a toddler, who make my life have a purpose.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for two reasons. First, because my parents raised me to be one. and second, because I learned for myself that this was the right path for me. When I was 18 yrs old, right after graduating high school, My cousin and I took a trip into mexico for a few weeks. At one of our hotels I struck up a conversation with a girl about my church and its beliefs. At one point she asked me if I really believed this stuff. It was a very quick moment of deep introspection where I took a step back in my mind and asked myself some hard questions. "Do I really believe this stuff?" "Am I just a product of my parents ideals" "Is this something that I can spend the rest of my life following" And, "Can I honestly tell this girl that I believe these things that the Church had taught me." The answer came in a flash of pure enlightenment. There was a great warmth in my soul as I learned of Heavenly Fathers love for me and that he wanted me to know that his church truly existed and that I was blessed to have grown up a part of it. I answered her With a confident "Yes!" I have lived my life as a Mormon since because I learned for myself that it is Gods church on this earth.

How I live my faith

In our church a "Bishop" is the leader of the congregation. I serve in our congregation as his 1st assistant with the title "1st Counselor." I counsel with members and committees in looking towards both the spiritual and earthly welfare of the individuals and families of our congregation. I especially enjoy working with the youth, and participating in their activities. How can I not when my own boys are involved? The Church supports the Boy Scouts and this has always been a big part of our youths activities. I look forward to every camping trip and hike.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

I think that our church has grown so well because it gives people something solid that they can truly come to believe for themselves. I have yet to find a person of another faith who believes and supports all the doctrines of his faith. That is sad, how can you continue in a religion that you don't fully believe in?  We believe that we truly are a part of the true gospel of Jesus Christ and that every one of us, as individuals, can receive a spiritual confirmation of this through the holy spirit. It's rare to find an active Mormon who picks and chooses which parts of his religion to believe. We believe in all the doctrines taught in our church. Show more Show less
