Hi I'm Mike

I'm just an ordinary guy: a husband and father, a former Mayor, an entrepreneur, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of five beautiful daughters, and I love it. Many years ago, I moved to Northern Utah to attend University. I fell in love with the valley, and with a local young lady, and I never left. I am a businessman, and an entrepreneur, but most importantly, I am a man who loves his family. Nothing else I do really matters, but my 'girls' do. I enjoy the outdoors; hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, camping, backpacking, and just enjoying the beautiful creations on this earth. I have been involved in my local community, where we have lived for most of my married life. I have served on the city council, on the planning and zoning board, and also as Mayor. I love the people here, and it is a wonderful place to raise a family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of this Church, but, like all young people, I had to decide for myself if this was the life I wanted to live. Over the years, as I have studied the scriptures, and the doctrines and teachings of the modern church, as compared to the ancient church, I have seen the continuity of Christ's teachings, and their importance to me today. I know that God loves me, that his Son, Jesus Christ also loves me, and that my life and choices are important to them. As God spoke to and guided the ancient peoples in the Old Testament, as he spoke to and guided his Son in the New Testament, so he speaks to and guides us (and me) today. I need him as much now as the people did then, and I know that he has called prophets in these latter days to guide us through this difficult world we live in. As I continually search for those eternal truths that will help me as a man, a husband, and a father, I rely on the words of God's holy prophets, past and present. As I search for meaning in my life, my personal relationship with God and with his Son Jesus Christ brings me great strength and peace. I know who I am, and I know why I am here, but most important, I know where I am going. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through the little things in life. I try to smile at everyone, and reach out and be a friend. Invariably, people respond with a smile as well. It makes both of our days brighter. They say you love those you serve, and I love many people. I have served many years throughout my community, on city council, planning and zoning, and as mayor. It has been a great joy to me to get to know so many people and work with them to help make our community a better place. I may have served the community, but so many people have served me that I know I received more benefits than anyone else. Within my local church unit, I have also had many opportunities to serve. I have spent many years teaching the youth, mostly teenagers, in Sunday School and other classes. I love teaching and sharing my testimony with those who are still learning and developing theirs. It has been a great privilege to see many of these young people grow up and start their own families, and some of them have even taught my own children in their turn. What a privilege for me.
