Hi I'm Maria

I am a mom. I love to run. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 2 wonderful and rambunctious children. I learn new things every day about hanging on in the wild ride of life. Running is an opportunity for me to get out, be on my own, and clear my heart and head as I place one foot in front of the other. It is a time when I can be quiet in my heart and listen to God. When hard times come, as they always do, I practice turning to God for support. Sometimes I am more successful than others in that attempt, but every time I truly seek Him, God is there, patiently and lovingly waiting for me to let Him help me.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the most powerful healing force in my life. When I read the Book of Mormon with a prayer in my heart, I know it is the word of God just like the Bible. Sometimes my security falters. Sometimes I wonder if such a beautiful message could really be true-can I really have peace and joy in this life, regardless of my circumstances? Every time I search for the truth, I find it in the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When I truly seek through prayer and study, God confirms to me every time that He is there, that He loves me personally, and that I can be filled with peace, joy, and love as I follow His path.

How I live my faith

One of the most important things to me in living my faith is the time I spend speaking with God in prayer, and reading His word. When I make time for those things, I feel blessed, motivated and encouraged. I feel guided and ready to make decisions that will bring me and my family closer to God and Jesus. When I'm feeling close to Jesus, my heart is bursting to help others and to be the best person I can, and I think that's what living my faith is all about.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Wow. That's a good question. Pornography is such a powerfully addicting and degrading thing. Even the best, the purest, the most innocent of us can fall into it's grasp if we so much as rub shoulders with it. So how do we stop it? I guess we stop it one person at a time, starting with ourselves. We can commit right now that we will either never view suggestive material, or never view it again. We can draw the line way farther away than porn magazines or websites. We can choose not to view suggestive or crude TV shows, to stay away from websites and chat rooms that may put us at risk of exposure to pornographic content. We can listen to music that is respectful and free of sexual content, read books and magazines that promote high moral standards and healthy living, and surround ourselves with friends who are supportive of our media choices. As we fill our lives with goodness, we'll have no time or desire for all the garbage that's out there. Changing our media choices is hard. Sometimes the music we listen to, or the movies or TV shows we watch feel like they define us. I promise you that as you seek to make changes with Jesus's help, you will succeed. And when you have, you'll find more beauty in the world than you ever dreamed imaginable. Try it out- maybe just stop listening to one album you know isn't the best, or stop watching that TV show you've kinda been hoping would get better. You won't miss it after a while, and you'll have that much more time to enjoy the beautiful world and life God has given you. Show more Show less
