Hi I'm Lynn

I'm a creative accountant. Father of six. Husband of one. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am far from rich, except when it comes to my family. My wife and six children mean everything to me and most of my hobbies involve them. Not knowing what to be when I grew up I chose Accounting at the advice of a friend. I spent several years in public accounting, and have landed in recent years in private industry. I do accounting for a nut farm - my family says its the perfect job for me. Accounting really is funner than it looks! I love the Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Mariners and New Zealand All Blacks. Most sports capture my attention except golf. I like to read western, fantasy and science fiction novels. I also read some business books if I can get past the first chapter. New Zealand is my favorite place in the world and I love the Maoris and other people of Polynesian descent. I am a lifelong member of the Church, but my faith is not blind, but based on real and personal experiences I have had with God.

Why I am a Mormon

There was a period of time in my youth that I distanced myself from the Church and its teachings. I wanted to be seen as popular and athletic and I wasn't sure where the Church fit. Reading scriptures wasn't very "cool" in my mind, however, I felt drawn to the Book of Mormon. One day I hid in my bedroom so no one would see me read its words. I don't remember what I read, but the words made me cry. When I saw my tears I quickly put the book down because "boys don't cry." I have since had many choice and personal experiences where I have learned many things from God's Holy Spirit. By the Spirit I know that God lives and loves me. I am so thankful for the Good News that his son, Jesus Christ, brings to me. I make mistakes, but through the Savior I find peace, repent and change. By the Spirit I know the Book of Mormon is truly another witness for Christ. By the Spirit I know Jesus' gospel was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. If God speaks to me, and I believe He does through his Spirit, then He can speak to everyone.

How I live my faith

My faith is very personal to me. It starts in the morning with some time for scripture study, prayer, and of course a dog walk. I love to teach. It gives me a chance to learn more. The Church gives me the opportunity to lead other male, adult priesthood holders. If members of our congregation need help, I mobilize with the other men and we help them.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Lynn
I have only one wife - that's all I ever want or need! Seriously, polygamy was discontinued by the Church in the late 1800's. At the time it was considered a commandment from the mouth of prophets. There are several biblical precedents for polygamy: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses, among others, all practiced polygamy as commanded by God. But that has only happened in specific circumstances and under direct revelation from God. I have some ancestors that obeyed the law of polygamy in the early days of the Church. I don't think I fully understand what their feelings were, but I do believe they felt they had received a commandment from God, period. The standing commandment is one man, one woman united in marriage. Marriage has been called "the Sacred Triangle." Wife and husband and God. Neither is the man without the woman, nor the woman without the man in the Lord. Show more Show less
