Hi I'm Wendy

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a retired high school English teacher. I taught in Idaho, USA for 31 years (not always English--also Instrumental and Vocal Music), and I have moved to New Mexico. I moved to help take care of my mother, who died in 2010 at the age of 93 1/2. I married in July 2012 at age 65! I am an exercise freak because I also love to eat! I love doing Family History, Indexing, and reading all kinds of things. I'm taking piano lessons and working as a teachers' mentor at the local high school--when I'm not working on our 77-year-old house and yard.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church in 1996 when I was 49 years old. I have a friend in Idaho who I met in a college class, and she introduced me to the Church and the gospel. Over a period of about 9 years, she taught me--when I wanted to listen and learn. She never pushed me or asked me to commit to anything. I took the initiative when I felt comfortable doing so. I was baptized by her son and confirmed by her husband and another friend. Why? Because I know it is the full and living truth about me, this world, and the eternities. I love having the opportunity to use my skills and talents in teaching in the Church. Why? Because I learn so much every time I prepare lessons and teach them by the Spirit. I love the gospel. I love the Book of Mormon. I love my Heavenly Father and my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Some years after I joined the Church in 1996, I began to think about the blessings missing from my life because I was not married. I met a few single men my age at church, but I wasn't ready--or they weren't. What I was beginning to understand was that marriage was the only covenant I couldn't make on my own. And that knowledge stayed in the back of my mind for several years. After serving a mission (2007-2009) in Family History in Sydney, Australia, where I lived closely with 10-12 happily married couples, I knew I wanted that eternal commitment. Short version: Through a series of circumstances unplanned by me or John, we came together online, then in person, fell in love, and got married! As I look back, I see the Lord's hand in all of it, and I am so thankful for striving to live a righteous life so He could bless me. Now, in my new town (tiny) and new ward, I am a teacher in the adult Sunday School class and have a great companion to go visiting the women on our list. These things have not come easily to me, but I have come to know that they are the things which keep me close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. And that is where I want to be.
