Hi I'm Curt

I'm trained as aa lawyer and a scientist. I'm also a Mormon. Fui educado como scientífico y abogado. Soy Mormón.

About Me

I'm a very lucky guy -- I have five great kids and a wonderful wife. I worked in one of the greatest cities on earth, New York, and currently live and work in Panama. I also very much enjoy serving in my church and am currently leading a group of 200 young missionaries together with my wife, Melanie. Soy bien bendecido.

Why I am a Mormon

I have known there is a God since I was very young. My belief in God the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, has become unshakeable over the years. Although (or perhaps because) I am steeped in the scientific method and the role of evidence in gaining knowledge and understanding, faith guides my life daily. Faith is made stronger when supported by experience and observation. I have seen and felt so much that makes it clear to me that God loves us all and wants us to succeed. He has directed my life for good both when I have asked for His help and also when I have not expected His influence. I have watched the miracle of repentance and change through the Atonement of Jesus Christ in the lives of many people that I am close to. I have felt the miracle of Christ's power to forgive in my own life, too. Some of the clearest direction I have ever received from God has come through reading the Book of Mormon and the Bible. These two great books of scripture support and clarify one another. Together they are much more powerful than either one alone. The Book of Mormon also stands as a testament to the prophetic role of Joseph Smith in the restoration of much that was missing from the Gospel, including the Priesthood, which is the power and authority to act in God's name. Having the Gospel restored includes the blessing of having a prophet and apostles today, just as in times of old. I have met some of these men and listened closely to all of them. The Holy Spirit has whispered to my heart that they have indeed been chosen by God in these latter days to be witnesses for Him and for His Son, Jesus Christ. With each passing year I am able to value their teachings more and understand them better. It is a wonderful time to be alive!

How I live my faith

One of the exciting things about our church is that we all get to participate in running it from day to day. For almost ten years I had the wonderful blessing of leading a group of twelve congregations in North Central New Jersey. In my travels among these congregations, where English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French are widely spoken, I have seen humble men and women of high and low worldly station serve one another, offer a hand in the hard times of life, help the sick and comfort those who are mourning or troubled, and do the everyday works that Jesus would have them do. Nowadays I'm serving as a full-time missionary in Panama. My wife and I care for the 200 young missionaries serving in this wonderful country. This three-year assignment has been a real highlight in our lives, as we've come to know new people, a wonderful country, and the joys of having hundreds of new kids that we feel are truly ours. The unexpected surprise of being able to spend our time sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ every day has been that the time passes by far too quickly. When I remember that Christ's ministry during His mortality on this earth was for only three years, I marvel at all He accomplished. Our goals are much humbler, but we are grateful to be able to serve our fellow women and men in such a beautiful place.
