Hi I'm Kelly

I love my family, literature and old movies, pretty much in that order and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a life-long member of the Church and have worked for it's Educational System as a teacher and now as a coordinator of Daily Seminary teachers and Institute teachers. In my personal life I love to go to Walt Disney World with my wife; breath in negative ions at the beach at sunrise; bonsai trees; shoot skeet; and cook.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon was a choice for me, eventhough i was raised in the Church. My parents weren't very faithful but I always felt a strong pull to attend. I served as a missionary when I was nineteen and I discovered that no one is perfect in the Church. I don't attend Church because I expect everyone to be perfect: I attend to become a better person. When I focus on my relationship with Jesus Christ and the covenants that I have made to follow his example and serve others, I find that I can be faithful and never have to worry about what anyone else is doing. That knowledge and strength came through personal prayer and scripture study. I know that The Savior lived and died to help me to learn and grow and strive to become more like him. I feel His love for me and, through His Atonement, I feel the love of my Heavenly Father. It makes me want to be a better husband and father and to looke for opportunities to love and serve others. I know that I'm flawed, as a human being, but I also know that with His help, I can be and become, more than I could ever be without His aid. Membership in this Church gives me access to other members with similar trials and struggles and I draw strength from that feeling of extended family. As Philip invited Nathanael: "Come and see."

How I live my faith

I work for the Church's Seminary and Institute programs. I have taught the Gospel for 23 years as a Seminary teacher (youth 14-18 years old) and Institute (Young Single Adults, aged 18-30). I love the Gospel. Nothing helps me to feel more connected to God than teaching and testifying of the Savior, Jesus Christ. Come and join us for a class or two and bring your friends. I have served in several leadership possitions and they have helped me to reach out and be of service to others, but my favorite thing to do is to teach. The Gospel of Jesus Christ isn't something that you can just comprehend at the first reading or just by listening to a few sermons: it's an adventure of discovery that gives you insight into your own life and strengthens you to help others. Membership in the Church is a participatory sport, not something that you watch from a distance. That's why it's a family.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

I have a friend that is Luthren and he doesn't worship Martin Luther, even though the name of his church has Martin's name in it. I have a freind that is Jewish and he loves the teachings of Moses, yet he doesn't worship Moses. I feel about Joseph Smith the way my friends feel about the men that they esteem as great prophets. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that like I know that the sun in coming up tomorrow. The name of my Church is The Church of Jesus Christ. That's who we worship. Show more Show less
